Merged Clip Newbie

Well, this is my first time using Merged Clips. The merging process went smoothly and quickly using the Multicam method. I'm reading that Merged clips have been a problem since inception, a common word I'm seeing is 'nightmare', which doesn't make me feel any better with my issues. They are -

1 - Cannot create a Subclip from a Merged Clip - 'Make Subclip' is grayed out.

2 - Dragging a section of a Merged Clip in the Source Panel to the timeline works, but then I rename that Timeline clip, and the new name doesn't show, the Merged Clip's name remains. Thinking that the Rename just didn't 'take', I try again, but in the Rename dialog box, it's showing the clip's name as what I'd previously changed it to.

Just curious to find out if there is some setting tucked away that is causing these.

Ahhh...I see what the problem is. I created my Merged Clips using the Multicam method, and it seems that Merged Clips created this way will not show their new name on the Timeline. I tried simply merging a single clip, and it does show it's new name.

You cannot create a subclip from a Merged clip. If you export the Merged clip to it's own file then reimport, you'll be able to create subclips from that.

I just tried dragging a section of a Merged clip to the timeline and renaming it, both in the bin and on the timeline, and I had no issue with it sticking. (Note that renaming the clip in your timeline does not rename it in the bin, and vice versa)

It's important to note that Merged Clips and Multicam are two different things.  If you need a Merged Clip, create that.  If you need a Multicam sequence, create that.
