mts files without sound (Solution)

the latest premiere pro, december 4th 2015.

windows 7 pro, hp z820 workstation.

sony a6000 .mtsfiles

new project, the .mts files are imported (via media browser) without sound.

in yesterdays project, with the previous version, the mts files are unlinked and cannot be linked through various methodes discribed here.

‌so I tried to roll back. but the only option is going back to cc2014, which does not accept yesterdays project.

SOLUTION

i managed to get things working by converting the mts files to mp4 and relinking those. premiere accepts those mp4 files as the original .mts, which are still named .mts!

premiere is not the only app that has issues with the sound of .mts files, davinci resolve, mocha. Still it is hardly acceptable to drop support of .mts files sound over night with a new release.

.mts support should not be changed in the latest update CC2015.1.

Do these files have Dolby AC3 audio? With the CC 2015.1 update, you now need to install the Dolby codec, which should be noted by a dialog when you attempt to import a clip. You will receive Premiere Pro dialog, "Dolby codec must be installed to use this feature. Click OK to install now."

The other thing to try is to quit Premiere, delete your Media Cache files, launch Premiere and import the files again.

I am currently working on a wedding project that was started prior to this update.  I have mixed footage of MOV and MTS files and had no problem with the audio/video.  Then against better judgement, I updated the software.  When I opened the project file, all of MTS files were showing as offline.  When I attempted to re-link the media, a dialog box told me that the audio didn't match the video and did I want to continue.  I continued and now when I open the project file, the MTS clips only contains the video track.  The audio segments to these clips are completely gone.  What's even better is that I have a delivery date of 3 days to get this video finished, so this issue has caused my stress level to triple.

I wonder if somehow you are not getting the Dolby install dialog? Given your time sensitive situation, I would recommend you go back to the previous version of Premiere to finish your project. More info: Install a previous version of any Creative Cloud application

Later, you can decide what timing is right for you to update and see if the same issue occurs.

This is what I have observed - If I attempt to re-import a previously edited MTS file (pre-update), then there is no audio, only video.  However, if I import a new MTS file into the project, there is video/audio for that clip.  I have already deleted the media cache and the problem still exists, how can I can resolve this issue without having to reinstall the program?

I've got a similar issue with Premiere/Media Encoder not recognizing the audio, but with .ts files--with dolby ac3 encoded in the video file. Premiere doesn't even recognize the audio at all, so I can't select that interpret audio option.

I do get the message presented to download the dolby codec, but nothing happens afterwards. I get that message popping up in Media Encoder and Premiere and neither program does anything about actually installing the codec ("Dolby codec must be installed to use this feature. Click OK to install now.").

Is there a way to install the dolby codec manually?

After the dialog, and clicking ok nothing seems to happen.

Clearing the cache, a new import, doesn't work either.

What worked for me was running Adobe Premiere CC 2015.3 as a local admin.

Import the MTS then, and you'll be able to hear the audio without a problem.

Would be nice if this was better documented / solved by Adobe properly!

But nothing happens afterwards click Ok to install now in MAC system. Is there another way to install the dolby codec manually? In windows 10 I did'n problem because after click codec was installed.

Regardless of how I import the media - I still only have the video portion.  Somehow for clips that were previously edited, Premiere still is pointing to the mis-conformed video/audio track.

I managed to fix it with a wierd solution but it works for me and is quite easy. Select all the videofiles in your project window then right mouse click. Select modify/audio channels and put those to adaptive.

It doesnt alter the left and right channel but does fix the problem. The only thing is that it puts the audiosegment of the clip 4 channels down. Jus erase the empty ones and ad some new ones below your audiofile.

That did not work for me.  In 'Modify', the audio option is grayed out.

Any answer to this yet? I also have clicked yes to install the codec yet nothing actually changed??? still have a bunch of files on my computer that will not import the audio with the video? there should be a way to manually install this codec?

FIX (at least on my machine - Windows 7 Pro and Premiere Pro CC 2015):  Started getting this issue with all movie clip types, not just MTS

* Import the movie clip

* Right click on movie clip in the project window (usually upper left corner)

* Click Modify and then click Audio Channels

* Change 'Number of audio clips' to 2

* Click off of field, you will see 'Clip 1' and 'Clip 2' appear.

* Click left and right channel on Clip 2

* Click OK

* You can now add your clip to your timeline along with its audio portion!

Audio channels is grayed out.  It doesn't see any audio which is the problem in the first place.

Here's the solution to this "Dolby Codec" mystery for Premiere Pro CC 2015.4

1.Open your project in Premiere Pro. If "Dolby Codec' window shows up, click to install it.

2. Close Premiere Pro (Don't save your project)

3. Open Media Encoder

4. Go to " Edit - preferences - select "Media"

5. Clean up the Media Cache Database.

6. Then, click the "Browse" from the left of "clean" (Media Cache Database).

7. Delete all cache folders (Anywhere Cache, Media Cache, Media Cache Files...)

8. DO NOT CLICK the CLEAN (from 5 above) again. Doing that will recreate the folders in (7 above)

9. Close Media Encoder

10. Open Premiere Pro. And Voila! You should be fine.

*If not, you may want to relink the footages).

The above works for me. Hope it does for all.

Suddenly - without any updates (Premiere 2015.3; .4 does not work because of the memory leak, so I still have to stay at .3 and stayed by that for over one month now) or changes to the system - all media (MTS with AC3) were offline.

@Adobe: Shame on you! I pay for that software a lot of money! And it is worth it, IF it works! But who get paid for my last 5 hours, where I couldn't get forward in my project???

I deleted the Media Cache, but didnt work, then a rename the folder where my clips was storage. I relink the files and then the audio now is ok.

I had this issue but was able to get past it.  I believe the following got me there.

1.  Close all Adobe apps

2.  Go to your media cache folder and delete everything

3.  I also went to my media cache database folder and RENAMED the database

         a.  I renamed it instead of deleting in case this broke the install (but it didn't)

4.  Relaunch Premeire (or Media encoder)

5.  IMPORT files to the project instead of just drag drop.

6.  I noticed that my MTS files did not have a preview at first.   I waited for the preview (thumbnail) to look right before continuing.  This only took 30 seconds for the two 1 hour clips I was working with.

I hope this helps someone.

This did nothing for me. I imported an MP4 but it still imported without sound. This is after i renamed and moved the common folder. Please help?
