No audio in imported .mov

Hi everyone, I'm a student filmmaker and new subscriber to the Creative Cloud.

1. Apologies if this is long but it's complicated

2. If I use the wrong terminology please feel free to correct me, it's the only way we learn.

Ok. I have 3 .mov files that were shot on a Sony Z1 and Sony HC9. They were converted from MiniDV to .move byour the person that owns the cameras, not me.

I started a new project to edit them. Imported the files, added the first to the source window, no audio. Tried with the other 2 files, no audio.

I then opened the files in Windows Media Player and all 3 files played perfectly. Tried Premiere again, same problem, no audio. For some reason I then tried QuickTime and they had the same issue in QuickTime as in Premiere.

I rang Adobe for assistance. They asked me to import the files into After Effects and see if they played there. They worked perfectly. Adobe told me I would have to use AE to encode the files to something that Premiere could cope with. I chose .avi and it converted 123mb .mov files to 56gb .avi

The .avi then worked in Premiere, but the file sizes are too huge to deal with. 56gb for a 9 minute video file.

I figured it might be a codec issue so d/loaded and installed the k/lite codec mega pack and tried everything again.

Now the .mov will play in QuickTime and Windows Media Player , but still not Premiere.

Can someone please offer ends some advice here so that I can start editing this footage without having to re-encode everything before I start?

    Correct answer Mo Alani

I'm not against converting the footage, but I would rather not if I don't have to. I would prefer to figure out why Premiere can't play the audio when AE, QuickTime and Media Player are able to.

In addition to that the guy that sent me the footage is going to be doing so for the foreseeable,  so would mean continually converting everything he sends me.

    - Did you try to delete the Media Cache and Media Cache Files and renaming the folder that contain your footage ?

    Try that.

Post a screenshot of the mov in MediaInfo Mac in treeview.

Are they hdv or dv files?

Try to convert them to QuckTime with H264 codec or DVCPRO 25 or 50 or use Handbrake to convert your video to MXF or Qucktime with Constant frame rate
