Pattern Overlay Video File Size

Hello, I have only just opened Premiere for the second time ever to try and learn some more. I use the other adobe products daily so I apologise if this a stupid question.

I am looking to create a short video background sequence for a website and have always wondered if I was to get a video say 1080p resolution then place pattern overlay (say png file) that was 4x4 pixels repeated over the entire thing (see attached), essentially halving the pixels that would change, under what kind of compression, circumstance would this "half" my video file size?

I know that there are compression algorithms at play etc but would something like this only apply to a completely uncompressed video? Or no way at all this method would ever help?

Many websites have background video with a transparent overlay, the visual effect would just be similar to an overlay plus have a benefit or smaller files.

Thanks again and sorry once again if it is a stupid question just looking for a better understanding

Cheers.

You would need to use VBR for something like this and experiment with it. This is an involved codec question that I don't think you're going to have much of an option on anyways as browsers are limited as to what they can play.

Thanks for getting back to me Graeme, I thought this would be the case. I thought it a bit strange that I couldn't find a discussion about this in the forum as I mentioned having a colour or pattern overlay on a web video is quite common these days.
