Question

Playhead is flickering (flashing) in the Premiere Pro timeline.

Still looking for an answer to this little bug.

system: 32gb, 64bit, win10 GTX1050Ti lots of HDrives. Ryzen 7 eight core.

15 minute sequence with lots of cuts.

Issue:

When I expand the timeline, everything is fine.  When I condense the timeline, the playhead starts flashing.  I then have to quickly expand the timeline because soon after the flickering starts it will lock up PPro and I have to re launch it.

My theory is the timeline is over stuffed with data and it's a warning flicker. But there is no info on this anywhere.

As I expand the timeline, the flickering slows down, then stops. Vice versa when condensing the timeline, flickering starts up again.  So it does appear to be a controlled flickering.  But what is the reason?

Condensing timeline displays more clips and data, so maybe there is a limit as to how much data can be shown in the sequence window at one time?

Did I miss the "increase ram to the sequence" setting? lol

Any thought would be highly appreciated.   It's a super annoying bug with no data to be found.

Thanks,

Letty

I'd love to keep this going. I don't have an answer, but I have the same problem. For me, when the playhead starts flashing, I can't select clips in the timeline, activate or deactivate any tracks or indeed do anything in the timeline. Sometimes, selecting another window, then selecting the timeline will allow me to operate again, and sometimes switching to another application and back will do the trick, but in either case, the playhead continues to flash. After some time, it may stop flashing and everything will return to normal, but my usual fix is to quit and restart Premiere. As far as I can tell, it only happens when I'm working with multicam clips. The problem often starts when I open a multicam clip in the timeline, but it also happens when I'm working in a timeline with multicam clips cut together. Also, as Letty noted, this seems to happen more with longer sequences with more cuts.

I am not using any third-party video hardware. My setup is:

Windows 10 64-bit

Ryzen 7 1700x 8-core 3.4Ghz

32GB RAM

Geforce GTX 1070 Ti

NVMe Boot Drive

SSD Scratch Drive

Footage on external USB 3 drives for this project, but it happens on other projects where the footage is stored on internal SATA drives

The current project I'm working in is full of R3D 4K files, so it's pretty hefty. But this has happened with leaner projects as well.

I believe it's related to audio waveforms in the timeline. Check out the last couple posts in the following thread regarding hiding waveforms and audio tracks. Since my post there, I haven't been having the issue if I use these workarounds for audio.

What is BMD?    also, 3rd party hardware? what are you referring to?

I still have this problem and the Adobe people can't offer any solution, nor in this entire Adobe forum.

The problem is so annoying it's disrupting my entire life.

ADOBE TECHS ARE YOU READING ANY OF THESE POSTS???  PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM.

NOTHING HERE WORKS:

reinstall ppro

import project into new one

copy files to a new sequence (works for a little while)

install latest gpu drivers

WHAT DOES WORK:

If I hang myself.

SOMEBODY PLEASE REPLY.  THANK YOU.
