Premiere CC 2017 Closed Caption CEA-708 Off Center

i'm having this really annoying problem with Adobe Premiere CC 2017 and CEA-708 captions and couldn't find any information on this particular issue.

im preparing a series for broadcast and the network has asked me for MXF files with embedded CC - for that I've arranged the following workflow:

-get transcription synced as SRT

-import SRT into MacCaption, set all parameters for CEA-708 and export it to MCC

-import MCC into Premiere, drop it into timeline and export it as MXF with embedded CC

the problem is that when i import the MCC into premiere, the alignment of the captions get all wrong, off-center(http://i.imgur.com/qlHZhJ5.png) - as premiere doesn't let me select all the captions at once (feature request!), it takes a long time to fix this.

I've also tried to embed the CC using MacCaption but when i check the MXF in Premiere it looks the same - im guessing this is a premiere problem with CEA-708, but i cannot test that since i couldn't find any players that play MXFs with embedded CC besides premiere.

has anyone been through this and can give me a hand? this is driving me crazy.

thank you!

Hey guys..not sure who of you have found a solution...but I managed 'I think' to make it work for Open Captions in CC 2018..my problem was..when imported the captions were too small and misplaced and I could not work out how to make changes to multiple captions at once... So I did this

Go to your bin that contains the .srt file...then right click..then Modify..then down to captions...and change the ratio to that of your project...( if like in my case it was different ).. My .srt file was originally 720...so I changed to suit my 2k project..2048 x 1080.

That essentially made the captions the correct proportion.

Then ..the thing that was bugging me was ..I could not make changes to multiple captions at once..but it was in fact quite easy..go to captions in your project panel......hold shift and click on the grey area to the left or even in the box that contains the actual caption..the scroll down and click another box while holding shift..this will allow you to highlight as many as you want..then make your changes..font size, positioning etc..this will make a global change to all of your selected captions...and should centre your captions.

You guys all seem to know what you are talking about even with the bugs going on,

i have a quick question that is probably an easy answer i just cant figure it out.

i have finished captions on an episode and it was ready to go then the editor added to the begining of the episode so is there a way to move the caption back on the timline to fill the void but keep all the captions lined up where they are supposed to be?  they need to slide back 25 second.

...do you mean shifting the captions by themselves along a timeline?..if so you just click and drag as you would any footage...if you want to move footage and captions together ?..I group everything that needs to move so they are locked together then click and drag everything...cheers

I have updated to 11.1.2 but I am still having the problem of misplaced captions. Is anybody having same issue or know if this has been solved?

I have also updated to the newer version available, but the bug remains the same.

Open captions don't save when I edit anything! Spelling, re-centering, sizing etc. When I export some are shifted off screen. I am missing deadlines because of this bug. Adobe please fix this. We are paying customers.

Make sure you are updated to the latest version issued this week.  A lot of bugs were fixed.

I had a issue like this when using Mac Caption with SRT files.  The centering got

shifted to 10% in some captions instead of the normal 50% center.  I was able

to use a text editor and go through and replace all the 10% centers with 50%

and fixed the issue.   Please note there were also some centering set to 37%,

40%, 42%, 46%...  So be sure to check the file completely to be sure all

lines are back to center.

When I try to put CC lined up in the lower left corner the text gets all messed up. If you change the value from "x" to "2" the text moves up to the top of the screen, even when "y" is set to "14". It's one of those annoying bugs.

I am having a similar probelm with caption line 708.  I'm told by network ops to instill Premiere 2015 and output from there.  Highly frustrating.  Still running 11.1.0 (222) build.  Does an update resolve this issue?

It still has the same problem.

- as premiere doesn't let me select all the captions at once (feature request!), it takes a long time to fix this.

On the Captions window, select the first caption, click on the gray area between the in, out time code is, hold shift and scroll down to the last one, click again in the gray area between the in, out time code, do whatever adjustments you need to do all at once.

I'm having different issues with Close Captions on Premier, but that's another story.

im sorry Andrei, you're mistaken (i really hoped you weren't). it doesn't work for closed captions. tried it at that point in time and retried it today - maybe it just works for open captions?

I did some good research before posting this as i had to pay someone to center the captions in all episodes for me.

here's a gif of me trying to select more than one caption at a time

Same problem here using Open Captions.  The captions randomly slip to the left.  Same problem on my home computer and 4 workstations at an editing house I am working at right now.  Captions also randomly totally disappear and you have to quit and restart Premiere to get them back.  Buggy buggy.

In my case, only the long captions getting close to the safe margins get off centered. I'd like to get the Open Captions bug fixed ASAP! It's very annoying.

Hi mujique,

I checked out your screen shot. First of all, thanks for that. It helps me visualize the problem. Yuck, that's unacceptable.

couldn't find any information on this particular issue.

How frustrating. Let me search around a bit. [searches bug database]

It appears that there may be an issue affecting some (but not all) customers along these lines. Please file a bug here. In the mean time, I'll try to gather more evidence for the bug and will add that to your issue to get the bug greater visibility or "traction" as we say.

You might also try slightly different workflows, preferences, and settings, with your caption software to see if there's a better path to getting this feature to work in Premiere Pro.

Again, I'll see if I can find any common threads in getting out a fix or workaround for you.

Hopefully, other customers can respond with their experiences.

Regards,
Kevin

Hey Kevin,

Thank you for your time. I've filed the bug report as instructed.

Also, I have tried several methods of importing CEA-708 CC into premiere (different extensions and programs) and they all gave me the same error.

Regards,

Lucas
