"Delete Render Files" has mixed results
Hi there,
I just attempted to use the, "Delete Render Files" function from the Sequence menu and had some conflicting outcomes. Wondering if anyone can shed some light on what's going on. I should mention that I am running Premiere on a Mac.
Upon using the command, here's what happened:
• I got the beach ball for quite a while... went to the coffee shop and came back, and by then the beach ball had gone away. All the sections that had been marked as green in my currently open sequence went back to yellow. Seemed as if I'd had success!
• I thought I'd restart Premiere. I quit, opted to save, the project saved, but then got hung up in the quitting process. I forced quit.
• I took a look in the Adobe Premiere Pro Video Previews folder for the render files, and they appeared to all still be there, despite the fact that they had gone offline in the Premiere project. There were also still several empty folders that I had previously discovered, all named with the convention: ProjectName-##.PRV or ProjectName_##.PRV. It seemed weird to me that some had an underscore in their auto generated file names, and some had a dash. Not sure what that's about.
• I went ahead and moved all these subfolders and files to the Trash.
• I reopened the Premiere project, and got a message saying that my render files had gone offline.
• I moved the files back from the Trash, and attempted to relink them, but none were a match. I hit cancel, and the project opened.
• I saved and closed the project, and tried opening it again. This time with the render folders and files in the Adobe Premiere Pro Video Previews from the start. I still got the error message saying that my render files had gone offline. I selected, "Skip All" and opened the project.
I realize there are a few competing variables here in determining what's going on, but some things that I would have expected from the software are:
• the absence of these weird empty folders in the Adobe Premiere Pro Video Previews folder.
• that using the Delete Render Files command would actually delete the render files.
• That after using this command, I would not get an error message upon re-opening the project that my render files had gone offline. My hope would have been that this command was a way to cleanly remove these files and any reference to them from my Premiere project. If I wanted to get an offline error message when opening the project, I would have just deleted the files through the Finder myself.
Any insight out there?
Thanks!
