"EMBED CLOSED CAPTIONS IN OUTPUT FILE" DOES NOT WORK

I KNOW this is an ongoing PROBLEM!!!  Not an issue but a REAL PROBLEM!  I've read scores of these threads on CC in PP.  MPG2 lists the option but when you apply it to anything in the Queue, it vanishes.  What's the deal Adobe?

 

Working on an iMac with High Sierra 10.13.6

Memory: 32 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB

Blackmagic Design: Intensity Extreme

Premiere Pro: 14.0.0 Build 572. (2020)

Encoder: 14.0 Build 556

 

The CC file is set for 708 Service 1. 

The time line is: LA_GENERIC_TV30B_HD_CC, 1920 x 1080, 00;00;30;00, 29.97 fps 48000 Hz - Stereo

The CEA-708 Service 1 properties: File Path: Captions Type: Captions Image Size: 640 x 480 Frame Rate: 29.97 Total Duration: 00;00;02;29 Pixel Aspect Ratio: 0.9091 Alpha: Straight Alpha

 

Embed in output file is NOT an option in PP Export window.  I send it to Encoder. What is the point of having an option when you can't use it?

 

MPG2 shows it as an option and in the Queue it vanishes.  This is really beyond frustrating.

I couldn't figure that out either! That must be why I did not respond to the post. But now I see....

 

In Media Encoder, go Preset -> Create Encoding Preset. Pick Mpeg2 as the format and any preset. Under Captions, you will see Embed in Output File. But don't be fooled: PR/AME will NOT embed captions in mpg2. Yes, it is supported by the spec, but not currently in PR/AME.

 

So when you create the preset in AME set to embed, as soon as you apply it to a file/sequence to export, it changes to "none," and there is no embed option available.

 

There is a fairly long standing feature request to add mpg2 embed, but so far no joy.

Can't thank you enough Stan 🙂

This has been driving me crazy for years. I always have to send my final productions to our closed captioners and then wait for the file to be sent back with embedded captions. Not a big deal except it would be nice to have the option to do the CC'ing myself when there is only a few sentences of voice over.

Really appreciate your help Stan.

I would do anything to know how you got "Embed in Output File" to be an option in the Export Options box!!!!!

I've tried everything and it never appears!!!!!!!
