Question

recording vhs footage with elgato capture

I'm trying to record some vhs footage using Premiere's capture tool, but when I click capture my video isn't showing up on the screen. I'm using an Elgato capture device to get the footage onto the computer. I know the cable is working because the video and audio show up on the Elgato application. I want to record it in Premiere instead of Elgato so I can record in the HDV setting. Is there a way to be able to see my footage using capture? Thanks!

Most cheap USB capture devices do not work with Premiere Pro? It would be better to get a Firewire based DV converter. The video below might be helpful.

Premiere will only capture over firewire.

Even if you are using firewire you cannot magically upscale VHS which is SD to HD(V).

Tell us your exact setup and which device you are using.
