Removing wires in moving footage?

I want to shoot some footage against a green screen of some toy space ships being moved around on wires so they appear to be flying. I will take it into Premiere and key out the background, and composite in some other background.

 

Can Premiere also be used to remove the wire hanging from the ship? The wire will be greyish tone and either plastic or metal for the heavier objects. Is there a way to do this or does it need to be taken into After Effects?

You can mask out the wires in Premiere Pro though you won't have as much control as if you did it in AE. After Effects excels at this sort of stuff.

If the shots are not too long (or too many) and the motion is fairly linear you can at least try to mask them out in Premiere Pro and see how you go.

 

There are 'Wire removal' plugins that can be used inside of Premiere Pro (and After Effects) Boris Continuum has one and there's one in the 'Key Correct' collections of plugins (can't recall who made these) but I've not used them.

    For clarification:

     

    1. From a quick search it seems there is a wire removal tool built into After Effects. Is it also built into Premiere or do you need to download the wire removal plugin from somewhere?

    You are right about AE. There is a CC Simple Wire Removal plugin inside AE. Don't see anything included in Premiere Pro though.
