Question

Show waveforms on just some audio tracks/clips

Hello.

When searching for answers to this question I came across lots of topics where people were asking why only some clips had waveforms and others not. That is obviously a problem but not mine. I have waveforms displayed on all tracks but there are some many clips on the timeline that moving around it takes forever as every scroll or zoom in or out causes the timeline to need to redisplay the waveforms. I could turn the waveforms off by clicking on the wrench at the time of the timeline panel and de-selecting "Show audio waveform", then I can move around the timeline smoothly. However, then I cannot edit so well as I need to see the waveforms but only on one track.

So my question, how can I turn waveforms on or off on individual tracks or clips? Is this possible or is it only a global setting?

Alternatively, some way of premiere not struggling to display waveforms so much. I am on a powerful machine!

Many thanks, Stephen

Today the waveforms went into 'disco mode' again. It happens maybe only once a week but this time I made a little video of it. A restart sorts it. But it is very similar to the problem I get nearly every time when scrolling or zooming in and out on the timeline. The waveforms all refresh - just once, they don't flash continuously like this, but they do something similar.

Try making the audio track(s) smaller in height by dragging.

That kind of works, by completely shrinking the height of tracks that I don't need to see the waveform, it doesn't show the waveform on those tracks anymore.

Premiere does seem to have a bit of a problem with it though. Sometimes it is fine and other times it goes into a bit of a disco mode showing waveforms and redrawing them randomly without me even moving around the timeline.

some way of premiere not struggling to display waveforms

It normally doesn't at all.  The better question is why does it struggle for you?

Turning waveform off is for all or nothing. Not for individual clips.

What kind of audio is it.

Wave usually edits smoother then e.g. mp3.
