Question

Speed up playback on over-cranked footage

Hi folks,

I have a lot of over cranked footage from a recent doc we shot, everything from 120fps to 180fps, mostly FS7. The thing is, that over cranked footage is still technically in 24p, that is, the FS7 over cranks it internally, but the file frame speed remains the same.

So, my question is, how can i speed that footage up to normal playback using Premeiere, without kinda sorta guessing what the right speeds are? Right now, I'm using just the duration control, and speeding it up 200%, 250%, etc...

Any guidance on this? Many thanks!

Right-click clips in Project Bin (you can multi-select do them all at once) and select Modify > Interpret where you can then set frame rate manually to whatever it was shot at.

EDIT: re-reading the question, I see that you don't know what the original frame rate was, but if you have a couple of choices, start with one and see if playback looks correct I guess, and change if necessary.

Thanks

Jeff

Hey Jeff,

So there is no way to actually know and set a "normal" playback speed?

If the clip itself reports it is 24p there is no way for Premiere to know if the actual recording speed was 180p for instance. I often shoot 60p and edit in a 30p sequence, and since the clip reports 60p, Premiere can automatically play that at the correct speed in the 30p sequence. It knows what to do. But it can't guess the "correct" speed any more than you or I if the clip data does not report the proper fps.

Thanks

Jeff
