Stop auto-creating audio channels?

I have a project and timeline that is two audio tracks but I'm using multi-clips and footage for some b-roll that has 8-12 audio channels. Is there a way to stop Premier from creating 10 new audio tracks and adding this extra audio every time I make an edit? I can turn off the first two tracks but the rest just get added in. The source clips audio will be needed for other projects so I can't delete them. Is there just a way to turn this off or must I constantly be deleing this unwanted audio after I make an edit?

Modify the clips' audio channels to be what you want.

The problem is we will need all that audio for different shows we will be editing latter within this project and not all of the footage has 8-10 layers of audio (different shoots and sources some have 2, or 4) so that just means a huge mess for the night editors to figure out which clips audio to turn back on again latter.

At this point I'm just gonna live with garbage audio tracks.

Create a different project for the different shows.

Not really. That's what I was doing but every time I clean up and remove all the unwanted audio tracks a change gets made by the client and I'm deleting newly made audio tracks again.

By "make an edit" are you doing that separately in the Source monitor or perhaps on a separate timeline in pancake view?

Easiest way might be to set a keyboard shortcut for lock all audio tracks ... then it can't bring in audio. And it's quick to toggle on/off.

Regular old Source Monitor edit, no pancaking yet on this project.

Thank! I'll set up a shortcut and try that workflow.
