Exporting question! I have a doc that Oregon Public Broadcasting is interested in putting out. They have asked me to add closed captions but I'm having issues. I'm using Premiere Pro.

I picked CEA-708 and then I put in all the text. Here is the OPB closed caption guidelines

Closed Caption Files -

 

1) Embedded captions must be SMPTE 436m compliant 708/608’s in the ancillary data track of an
MXF.
2) Sidecar caption files must be SCC with a timecode that matches video timecode.

I go to export the video, I find the subtitles tab. I pick the option labled w3c/smpte/ebu timed text file

I export. Then when I put the video in Vimeo or youtube there is no CC button to push.

What step/s am I missing?

If they want a .scc file, pick the .scc sidecar file options.

 

Youtube and Vimeo do not automatically pick up the sidecar file. You must go into subtitles and add it.

 

I assume you are trying to send to Youtube/Vimeo to test it, but their method of using the sidecar file may be different from the player used by the broadcaster.

 

There are some gotchas in terms of whether PR will export the sdiecar with the correct zero point timecode.
