Video Playback Just Showing Black

I just updated to PP v13.0.2 on my IMac. Now when playing back anything, the program monitor within Premiere just shows black, but the audio is playing fine. We have this computer also playing back to an external monitor, which also plays back fine, it's just within Premiere that you don't see anything on the Program monitor. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

By any chance are you have Overlays enabled? If so, a possible workaround is to set the Renderer to OpenCL. Go to File menu > Project Settings > General > Video Rendering and Playback > Renderer: set to Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL).

There is an open issue with Metal Renderer for Overlays (results in black overlay) that is under investigation.

Thank you.

Hi - I didn't have overlays enabled, but I did have Safe Margins - disabling this also fixed the issue as well.

Thank you. The Safe Margins are part of Overlays, I should have mentioned that. If you want to use any of the Overlays functionality, a possible workaround is to use OpenCL Renderer. If you disable any of the Overlays functionality, then you should be OK with Metal Renderer.

Had the same issue - seems to be a problem with Metal. Switch your video rendering and playback to Open CL in your General project settings and it should sort it. Least, it did for us.
