What am I doing wrong? Stuck on Ripple Tool in edit.

Anyone else have this issue on Premiere. kinda killing my edits and nothing i do will stop my cursor defaulting to ripple. If i simply want to extend a video clip I cannot. and it effects the corresponding audio, and throws the whole timeline out of sync too.

I'm not a professional editor, nor am I that great but this glitch [or error on my part] is making my edits a nightmare to work on.

Any advice?
