Why do I have to import an AE comp twice in to PP?

Every time I attempt to import an After Effects comp into Premiere Pro, I have to make 2 attempts.

Process:

     File>Import

     Find the AE project file

Find the comp within the AE project file

     Highlight (or double-click, doesn't matter)

     Click - "OK"

First time it just sits there. Same import screen, like something is very wrong.

Then I have to dig into the AE project file, find the comp I want again, Highlight it  and click OK.

This has been going on for a couple months.  I have done some internet searches.  Not sure what keywords might get this to be answered.  All to no avail.

Is anyone having this issue?  Is this a dynamic link thing?

Would love if Adobe would weigh in on this one.

Oh, and previously, no issues importing.

Thanks

Hi All,

Sorry for the inconvenience. This issue is under investigation; Engineering is working on a fix. Please use the following as workarounds:

1. File>Adobe Dynamic Link>Import After Effects Composition or

2. Media Browser panel import

Thanks,

Vidya

It also would be very nice to select more than just one AE-comp. Image havin' 20 Comps in an AE-File and you want to import them to PR... you have to select every damn AE-Comp twice... in my eyes, the Star of Adobe is descending. And its well deserved.

The easiest workaround without affecting your workflow (no need for Dinamic Link nor Media Browser) is to just ignore the first dialog pane hitting the ESC key or CANCEL button and then double clicking the comp the second time the dialog pane appears.

I hope Adobe fixes this soon....

Honestly I can't believe this is still an issue; clicking in the Projects panel and then Cmd+I, or even just dragging an AE file into the Projects panel both result in this behaviour. It's 18 months on from the initial post and the top hit on Google is still "yeah we're looking at it but no ETA". It's not the end of the world but is somewhat frustrating.

Please don't mark an adobe response of "yeah, that's broken, and we're trying to figure out what's wrong" as a Correct answer. It's an answer. It's temporary, and it's helpful. But it's not the "correct" answer. It's the current workaround.

Why? Well, when people come searching here, how many months later? Well, this is marked as the answer. So for me, this looks like it's 6 months ago and Adobe still doesn't have an answer. If we don't mark it as the correct answer, then this message is still on Adobe's radar for needing support.

I mean, it's not as bad as the 2019 release screwing up a Ton of people's computers if they have more than one graphics card. But this is still a problem. Also, if you just remember, just hit ok once, Then go an select your composition. It's faster than the other workarounds.

I remember a while ago there was an issue that caused AE to crash if you selected something. Adobe's response was, "workaround, - don't do that." That was marked as the answer, but has since been fixed. The actual answer was never put into the forum. So people searching for the answer just think they can't select that thing. But if we wait to respond as Correct answer, then eventually, once the thing is fixed, we can mark that as correct.

It doesn't really work that way.  This is more of a user forum, not Adobe's bug list.

It does work with Go to File>Adobe Dynamic Link>Import After Effects Composition...

However, why does import directly from the project has that nasty bug? Adobe please fix it.

My first thought is to take a different tack.

Go to File>Adobe Dynamic Link>Import After Effects Composition...

Hi PixelVideos,

Sorry for the issue with Dynamic Link. Please check if both the dot versions of applications are compatible/same.

Steps: FAQ: How to find the exact version of Premiere Pro you're using?

Have you tried to import the comp using Media Browser panel? Please check.

Thanks,

Vidya

I'm having the same issue. Although it works fine via the Media Browser, I do most of my imports double clicking the project panel. Then I always have to select the comp and press ok two times.

As to the version numbers.. I'm using CC and both apps are up-to-date. (I'm on OSX)

Another thing; when there is only 1 comp in the AE file. Why do I have to select it when importing? Can't Premiere skip this step?
