Zooming into photo smoothly

Hi everyone,

I have been using Premiere for a long time, and currently use Premiere Pro CC 2015.3

I primarily do video editing and haven't dabbled much in the way of photos, and I am trying to do something fairly simple yet the zoom (motion) options are making it incredibly difficult and after reading and watching tutorials I still can't get it right and don't understand why something so simple is giving me so much trouble.

I have a high res image of a key hole, and I need to zoom into the keyhole slowly (but not super slowly) and eventually go through the keyhole which will reveal a video.  I already did the matte, I know how to make the hole transparent, all of that looks great, BUT, I can't figure out the simple task of the zoom!  I have played around for hours with the keyframes in the motion effect tool for scale, position, width, and have it done where it zooms into the spot I want it to (very easy,) BUT, I can't get the motion to be the speed I want!  I've adjusted the frames, I've moved them around, I've done less, done more, and it's either jerky, it's either too fast, it either starts slow then jumps ahead too fast, there's got to be an easier way.  Is there a plug in I can download where I can avoid the awful motion effect and use ANYTHING else?

Thanks,

- Ken

Hey Ken!

That must really be frustrating for you.

Aside from twirling down the arrow next to scale and working the handles on the key frames of you zoom effect I can't make any personal recommendations for presets or plugins. However I did see one that I was interested in after I was prompted by your question and did a little Google search. If you search "fxfactory pan and zoom" you should find what I found. Hope I was a little helpful.

Cheers.

The "speed" of the motion between keyframes is primarily set by the temporal distance between the keyframes and any interpolation you have set on the keyframes themselves.

If you are adjusting both the scale of the image and position at the same time, you may run into some unexpected results in the way Premiere treats spacial interpolation and temporal interpolation.

Here is a link to an article that may help:

You may want to try to create the zoom in After Effects.
