iPhone 16 4k or cinematic videos not compatible with Premiere Rush

New Here ,
Sep 27, 2024 Sep 27, 2024

Hi,

I just got the new IPhone 16 and I started filming 4k videos or cinematic videos. Once I upload them to Premiere Rush it shows Media import error. It says unsupported media type. 1 of 1 media could not be imported.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I simply turned off Spatial Audio and that seemed to resolve it...even with 4K resolutions.
Go to settings/camera and tap on Record Sound and switch from Spatial Audio to Stereo.

Instead of telling everyone to change their settings and to not use the full functionality of our new $1000+ phones maybe it would be best for Adobe to invest in an update and support the iPhones out of tue box functionality.  That's why I subscribed to Rush in the first place.   If not I'd be happy to find a new editor.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum, @bstevenson1776. I appreciate your comment. I'm in support, and I have reported the issue regarding the iOS issues with the newer devices more than once. While I agree with you, I don't have any control over the app's development. I apologize for the limits of my ability to fix bugs or add features. As a fellow Rush user, I wish the case were different.

For iOS users, a newer app called Project Violet can be used as an alternative to Rush. This app supports all the newer iOS formats and is available free on Apple's "App Store" right now. These users can also try the app and be free of any of Rush's restrictions or system requirements. More information is forthcoming on that. I am currently advocating for Project Violet to be available for Android users.

As an Android user, though, this issue should not affect you. In a separate post, please detail any troubles you are having with your Android device, and I will do my best to assist you. Thanks for your message.

Thanks, and have a lovely holiday,

Kevin

For real, this is embarassing. Adobe has lost the plot. This kind of failure to prioritize consumer products that keep up with the new media environment is what is going to sink Adobe in the the longterm if they don't get it together. If other cheap apps can handle this kind of video easily, it's shameful that a leader in this industry cannot be bothered to get out ahead of issues like this. (To be clear, I do not blame the individual contributors who are replying to this thread and who are not in charge of decision-making, I am just agreeing with the community of users who are sick of the arrogance of this company in thinking their current monopoly is unshakeable.)

Just to add I'm also experiencing this. Not just cinematic mode either, regular video on the iPhone 16 pro won't import.

it works perfectly with project violet but unfortunately that's missing some features from rush and won't import rush projects. My current workaround is to import into violet and then export before importing again to rush. Not ideal.

Does no one on "the team" have a new iPhone? Surely the team has a large group of iphone users, or at very least when a new model comes out we are making sure our software functions properly right? This is incredibly frustrating as a mobile shorts editor. Please fix!

Yes, @gilroy4200,

They verified that Rush works fine with the phone, you just need to change your camera settings. Go to Settings > Camera > Record Video, and disable HDR Video and spatial audio. That should work for you.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi @Ai3x@Azteca@scottr11880200@jennifer_7623@Allison34119006ob21, @Alexander35309527h4m6@sarsquirrel@amberhankins

HDR and Cinematic Mode are not supported. The standard video setting should work fine, though. On your iPhone, choose Settings > Camera > Record Video, and disable HDR Video and Spatial Audio. Let me know if you have any trouble with it.

This is false. It does not work with iPhone16 even with HDR turned off.

Spatial audio was the key, not HDR.

I, too, have this problem with all video types from the iPhone 16. I don't have a solution, but I see that others are also having this problem and wanted to voice that I, too, see the issue for any video I try to upload into Rush.

So my husband found a work around for importing iphone 16 4k videos into adobe rush using the adobe media encoder - if you upload your videos via icloud drive, run them through media encoder w/ the proper format, then export unmodified original video in your iphotos with the formatted one in the icloud drive and it'll let you import to rush. It's definitely a lot of steps but I was able to edit my footage by doing this.

HOPE IT HELPS IN ANY WAY!

Thanks for sharing your workaround, @Allison34119006ob21. Much appreciated! Transcoding the video using Adobe Media Encoder to a supported format, like H.264 is a good idea. I hope the team can provide support for this format soon, as it seems to be very popular. It would be nice to work with this format without having to transcode it.

Take Care,
Kevin

Exporting in H.264 is whitewashing the video.

Sounds like you are using HDR video, which is not supported. Sorry, @anja33885525p531! Can you try standard H.264?

Thanks,
Kevin
