Back and Forward buttons are enabled when you open a .chm file

Hi,
I have created a .chm file with RoboHelp X5, and when I open the .chm file for the first time, the Back and Forward buttons are enabled. I was wondering if this is the standard operation of viewing a help file? It seems a bit odd, because when I click the Back button or the Forward button, I'm not being transferred anyway from the default topic - of course not, because I have just opened the help file.

Is there a way to modify the Single Source Layout settings for HTML Help or the Window Properties for HTML Help so that the Back and Forward buttons would be dimmed until the user has actually been through several topics and clicking either the Back or the Forward button can work the way it is supposed to work?

Thank you for any assistance!

Cheers,
Sari

Hi Sari. This is standard CHM file behaviour and I'm not aware of a way to get around this.

Hi Sari

To expound on what Colum was spot on with, RoboHelp is simply used to create an output that is handled by the Microsoft HTML Help viewer. There is nothing RoboHelp can or cannot do to influence this behavior, as it is totally a result of the way the viewer works. Only Microsoft themselves can change this to behave in the manner you are wanting. As the viewer is firmly entrenched in millions of Windows installations, It's very doubtful that any changes will be occurring with the viewer.
