Browse sequence from book to topic and back to book

Mentor ,

Hi

We are generating Responsive and Webhelp outputs from RH11.

We have created a browse sequence to navigate between lessons (book) and between topics. The client expects these buttons to jump from the lesson to the first topic of that lesson and when they on last topic, it should take them to next lesson.

For example, when the learner clicks Next button on Lesson 2 book, he should be taken to Topic 1 of Lesson 2. When he clicks Next button on the last topic of Lesson 2, he should be taken to Lesson 3 book. Same with Back buttons.

We are generating browse sequence using levels in ToC. Is there a way to get the type of sequencing my client is expecting?

Sreekanth

P.S.: Though we are facing this issue with a FM-based RH project, I believe this is a generic issue. That is why I am posting the query here.

You need to create a single sequence that begins at the first logical topic and moves to the last logical topic.

I'm not sure if FM allows you to define the sequence there. If so, I'm not equipped to tell you how to accomplish it. But if it can only be done in RoboHelp, it's super easy Just open the Browse Sequence Editor and tell RoboHelp to create a sequence based on the TOC "as is" (For RoboHelp 2015 Release) or type 0 (zero) for the number of TOC levels to use.

Cheers... Rick

@Rick – nope, there’s nothing in FM that allows for the setting of Browse Sequences over in RH

Thanks Rick. Setting it to "as is" worked in RH11. Setting the level as 0 does not help.

Agree with Jeff. Nothing in FM to override the RH browse sequence settings.

Just a quick note: In RoboHelp 2017, the Browse Sequence Editor is now located in the Project tab. RH's Online Help erroneously states that it is in the Tools tab.

If you would kindly add where you found this error in the help, I will bring it to Adobe's attention. There used to be an option to comment the help, if it is still there, perhaps you could add something as a temporary solution.

I opened the Help for RH 2017, searched for Browse Sequence Editor, and this topic was the first hit:

Is this what you meant?

Also, don't forget to update the Responsive HTML5 Settings (Outputs(SSL) > right-click Responsive HTML5 > Properties > Content) by selecting the browse sequence before you Save and Generate.
