Error-The connection is invalid

Posting here at the suggestion of an Adobe Community Expert in the hope that readers who may not look at the RH HTML forum will respond.

Using RH 7 / RSC 3.1/ Windows XP

Both a co-worker and myself have received the "Error - the connection is invalid" error in RH7, working on different projects, attempting to do different functions. We could not get past it, and had to end the process to terminate RH7.

Both days the error occurred I had been in the process of adding projects to RSC 3.1, but when the errors occurred I was not in the middle of any file transfer activity.

Any information that can be provided to resolve, or at least understand the cause, would be greatly appreciated.

I work with RH6, so I don't know for sure if this will apply to you. It may--I don't think RSC changed a lot between these last two versions...

Anyhow, our experience is that every so often RSC starts acting badly. The symptoms are somewhat variable, and may be any of the following: strange error messages, denying permission to add/delete topics (either in general or just certain topics), problems with synchronization among multiple writers, loss of admin ability to set permissions...there are probably other symptoms, but those are what come to mind. When there is a rash of these occurrences, it means that the server needs to be rebooted, and it's usually the case that it's been a while since the last reboot. After the reboot, it hums along again.

RSC 3 is MUCH, MUCH better in this regard than its predecessor (we actually set up an automatic nightly reboot to deal with the old one), but it still performs best with the occasional reboot to keep things normal. As to *why* it is this way, that's a question for the Adobe engineers.

HTH,

Thanks for the information. We are just phasing our projects into RSC and we are really not taxing the server, but I take the point. We haven't had a recurrence of the error, but we do have some other issues that are making us a little nervous about the future.

I think that is the message we writers got when our IT department rebooted the server that RSC was installed on, and it got a new IP address. They made some change on the RSC server and that solved the problem. Hope this helps.
