I work with RH6, so I don't know for sure if this will apply
to you. It may--I don't think RSC changed a lot between these last
two versions...
Anyhow, our experience is that every so often RSC starts
acting badly. The symptoms are somewhat variable, and may be any of
the following: strange error messages, denying permission to
add/delete topics (either in general or just certain topics),
problems with synchronization among multiple writers, loss of admin
ability to set permissions...there are probably other symptoms, but
those are what come to mind. When there is a rash of these
occurrences, it means that the server needs to be rebooted, and
it's usually the case that it's been a while since the last reboot.
After the reboot, it hums along again.
RSC 3 is MUCH, MUCH better in this regard than its
predecessor (we actually set up an automatic nightly reboot to deal
with the old one), but it still performs best with the occasional
reboot to keep things normal. As to *why* it is this way, that's a
question for the Adobe engineers.
