Find and Replace in Files bug in RSC

Advisor ,
Aug 24, 2009 Aug 24, 2009

RH 8, RSC 3.1 [Have already posted bug report]

Replacing content in RSC-controlled files through the Find and Replace in Files window will corrupt the files, unless you separately Check Out the files first (which actually can be done without closing the Find and Replace in Files window).

Steps to reproduce bug:

  1. Set up Find and Replace in Files.
  2. Replace all.
  3. Attempt to open one of the changed files.

Results: Corrupt files.

Expected results: Uncorrupted files. RH 8 should automatically Check Out the files before editing them, or at least provide users with an appropriate alert message.

In my case, RH8 simply pops up a message saying that the files are read-only, so it can't carry out the replace command. After I check the files out manually, as MergeThis mentioned, the replace command works. I agree that RH should automatically check out the files for you when you're doing a search and replace.
