Question

How to go to highlighted search terms in topic

I am using RH8 HTML to generate a .CHM file.  I would like my end users to be able to type a search term (on the search tab in the compiled version) and then have the search window go directly to that term in the displayed topic.  I would also like them to be able to click Next to go to the next occurrence of the search term in the displayed topic.

How do I set those search options?

thanks for your help!

Hi Tina

Unfortunately those options aren't possible with the CHM format.

The limitations aren't imposed by RoboHelp. Instead, they are limitations of the Microsoft HTML Help viewer.

Good morning Rick -

Thank you for the quick reply. You mentioned that the CHM format does not support this functionality - do any of the RH generated formats provide this functionality?

Thank you again!

Hi Tina

I'm not Colum so hopefully he won't mind my replying here.

As Colum mentioned, Search will not grab the first topic and present it. But I think he may have misunderstood what you were asking.

My own understanding is that you wanted the user to see a list of topics containing the search term, but when they choose the topic, the term is highlited and possibly scrolled into view.

Assuming I've correctly understood you here, WebHelp output certainly offers that capability. I'm unsure if AIR Help or FlashHelp behave the same. But they may.

Cheers... Rick

Good morning Rick:

As you stated in your previous message, WebHelp does perform the following search functions: once the user selects the topic from the list of search results, the search term is highlighted and scrolled into view.

My question - is there a way to add a 'Next' button to the search tab that once clicked will navigate the user to the next occurrence of the search term? I checked the Windows properties and did not see anything there. Is this possible?

Thanks for your help - you have always been very good in your responses!!
