Is there a way to maintain an Index search display while viewing the assigned topics? For example, if I search for keyword, the Index will display the keyword. If I click the keyword, RH displays all the assigned topics below it. When I click a topic, I lose that index search. I have to search my keyword again.

I think that depends on which screen layout you are using. It does what you want in the desktop layouts where there is space to keep the index open.
I guess what you want is that the index search does not flush while the instance of the help is open. I'll defer to Willam to advise if that could be achieved.

What exactly do you want to retain? The data entered in the search form
or the expanded index keyword?
I think both are possible, but will require quite a bit of tinkering
with the layout scripts.

If I use the Index (not Search) to look for a keyword, I want the Index to maintain the aggegrated search results as I click through the associated topics for that keyword.
Example - I search for Product A, the Index displays "Product A." When I click Product A, I see all the topics associated with it.
Product A
Case Studies
Product Bulletin
Hardware Spec Sheet
Instalation Guide
Presentation Deck
and so on
As soon as I click one of the topics, I immediately lose the search results. My default Index displays, which means I have to search for Product A again to get the list back.
I want the expanded keyword with its sub-keywords to display until I either click on Contents or perform another search.

The only way to get this done is to update the JavaScript for the widget
itself. You may want to request this as a new feature:

Users in my organization have also requested this feature. Users in my organization prefer the way the search in webhelp works where the search results show up in the left pane and remain visible.

Please file a feature request for both the index and the search.
The search was one of the most requested features. I know a few people
who loathed the idea of a sidebar search in HTML5 when I suggested it to
them a few months ago. Good to hear that I'm not alone ![]()

I see merit in both approaches but on balance prefer using the topic pane as you can get more results in and more information about those results.
Perhaps you a button could be added for the user to select how they want the results to be displayed? ![]()

I'm afraid it's a bit more work than that as the entire layout must be
updated. More important: the widgets do not currently support this
behaviour, so that will have to be changed by Adobe as well.

A more gentlemanly replied than was deserved. I was teasing as I did realise it would take a massive effort to offer that.
