Missing Heading Styles for Word Mapping

I'm trying to map our RH templates to a Word doc. In general, it conceptually all seems very simple, but it isn't working as it should.

Let me start out with a little bit of tool background. I'm using:

- RH 10

- Word 2010 (.doc)

When I choose the 'Printed Documentation' output option, I go to the last screen of the dialogue box and choose default.css and my Word template.There I see the list of styles to be mapped. The problem I encounter at this point is that none of the defafult heading styles in RH (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.) appear for me to map them over. I believe every other style I have is in the list, just the headings are missing. But since I need to start there, I am stymied.

Can anyone tell me if I'm misunderstanding how this works, if it is a bug, or if there is some workaround or setting I've overlooked?

Any help would be appreciated.

I have moved this to Printed Documentation.

  • You cannot map to a CSS and a template.
  • A doc file is not a template, you need dot or dotx.
  • You cannot map Headings as they automap.

I have moved this to Printed Documentation.

  • You cannot map to a CSS and a template.
  • A doc file is not a template, you need dot or dotx.
  • You cannot map Headings as they automap.

Thanks for the info. A clarification and a few further questions.

I used the word "template" just to refer to the boilerplate styles we have in a stock project used to start projects. So I don't think that one is an issue.

I switched over to a .dot Word doc and am making some progress.

However, regarding the auto-mapping of headings, I am having some problems there. Are you suggesting that it should automatically map Heading 1 in RH to Heading 1 in the Word document?

I'm seeing something else entirely. The Heading 1 is retaining its formatting from RH. In this case, I have pretty big left margins defined in RH. So when I map out the other styles, like Normal for a paragraph for example, I'm seeing this in the Word doc:

                         Heading 1

ed ut perspiciatis unde omnis iste natus error sit voluptatem accusantium doloremque laudantium, totam rem aperiam, eaque ipsa quae ab illo inventore veritatis et quasi architecto beatae vitae dicta sunt explicabo. Nemo enim ipsam voluptatem quia voluptas sit aspernatur aut odit aut fugit, sed quia consequuntur magni dolores eos qui ratione voluptatem sequi nesciunt.

If I can't get the headings to match up to the other mapped styles, it seems like a pretty useless feature.

Actually just found the work around for this on your site:

"One way to create the Word document template is to generate a printed document from your project using the "[None] - Use the Project's CSS Styles" option. The resulting document will contain a set of named styles matching the styles used in your RoboHelp project. You can then reformat each of the styles as you want them to be in your printed document output, delete the content of the document, and save it as a document template."

Modifying the Word output from RH and saving it as .dotx did the trick with the Headings issue.
