I renamed the help output file of a project that is a referenced external help file in another project. Now, when you click on any of the hotspots linked to the renamed help file, the following message is displayed:
"Cannot find the oldfilename.hlp file. Do you want to try to find this file yourself?" If I say Yes and navigate to the location of the output file, I find the help. How can I restore the link so that it will be found automatically?

You need to change the path of all the links that refer to the "oldfilename.hlp" to "newfilename.hlp".

Hi Column. Thanks for your answer, but how can I change the path of all the links that refer to the oldfilename.hlp, when I cannot find the hotspots properties. All I get is the topics properties.

I tried the following:
1. turned on the hidden text option in word.
2. removed the hidden text.
3. re-created the jump to the external newfilename.hlp help file.
4. the help topics are not available to link.
What am I doing wrong?

What happens if you select the hyperlinked text and open the Insert Hyperlink toolbar icon? Does this allow you to change the file name? If not, try deleting the hyperlinked text and readding specifying the correct file.
