RH 10 Broken Links after copying files over to new machine

New Here ,
Dec 27, 2013 Dec 27, 2013

We moved RH to a different machine. After installing RH we simply copy/pasted the RH files from backup. Now the projects have tons of broken links. Any ideas? I'm not very familiar with RH at all.

That shouldn’t have produced broken links – you’ll have to check and see if the new machine can see all the network resources that the old machine had; there may be a lot of links to content located on drives that the new machine can’t see.

Ok this makes sense now.. the old machine was saving the project files on the D drive. This might be the cause since the new machine only has a C drive.

Where was the project located on the old machine? Full path please; now where is it on the new machine? Again, full path please.

If all the source (including the image files) is on the same: drive have you tried deleting the <projectname>.cpd file?

Yes, I tried that and it didnt work. I'm going to try and do a restore from an image that didnt work the first time, but what the heck, its worth a shot.

Have you looked at the specific topics that are appearing as busted? What are they looking for? My bet would be images or other resources that were in another location on the old machine.

Is there a way to tell what the location is that its looking for?

When you open up a topic that RH is complaining about in Design View, you should see some indication of the trouble – images appearing as red X’s; examine the HTML View to see what paths are being referenced. Usually re-browsing to fix one image, can fix them all.

Provided ALL the files have been copied across there should be no broken links. Try deleting the <projectname>.cpd file. If that doesn't work, we will need extra information to understand precisely what is going on. For example, what type of link is being used? Absolute or relative?
