Question

RH can't open the settings.isf file. NOW what am I to do?

I have TCS 2 and am linking FM9 book to RH8 project.

I had some problem with my TOC and couldn't figure it out, so I decided to start a new RH project and relink my book. When I tried to load the settings from my stetting.isf file, I get the following error message: "Experiencing problem opening the setting file. Please import another settings file." I don't HAVE another settings file. THIS is the one I have worked to build over the last four MONTHS. I tried exporting settings from other projects, and it tells me it exported successfully, but gives me the same error when trying to load the settings file. Please, please help me. I am supposed to be done with this project today.

Hello all,

I'm having this exact same problem. I am using TCS 3 and am linking a FM book. I can't get the isf file to import. It gives me an error and then asks me to use another settings file.

I tried to follow the instructions here, but it just doesn't work.

http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2010/03/demystifying_mapping_filesettingisf_and_toc_generation.html

And the weird part is, I tried several times and finally exported an isf file directly to the root of my C: drive, but the error message kept referring to the file as if it were located on my Desktop (which was the original location I used).

I really need help with this one - looks like I'll miss my deadline on Monday otherwise.

thanks.s

I cannot help you with this problem but I am thinking it might help the people who can if you were to add screenshots of the error messages. Use the camera icon above to insert them.

That's a good idea Peter. I've attached some screen shots, and here are the steps I followed:

  1. Open project that has the FrameMaker to Robohelp settings defined.
  2. Select File > Project Settings
  3. In the Project Settings dialog, select "Save Settings to:" In this example, I used the following location: C:\test\settings.isf
  4. Click ok.
  5. Click File > Close Project
  6. Open the project that I need to import settings into.
**Note that this project uses the same template as the project I used to export settings; in other words, it has the exact same set of paragraph tags, character tags, colors, cross-ref formats, etc defined.
  7. Attempt #1: I am trying to import my settings BEFORE linking the FrameMaker book.
  8. File > Project settings.
  9. Load Settings from:
    c:\test\settings.isf

Note the error message (screen cap attached). I'm not sure where it's looking for the file, but it isn't the location I specificed.

It seems to be looking here:
C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\Local Settings\Temp\IFSfolder

  1. Attempt #2 Link the Frame book and THEN try to import the settings. Same results.
