RH2020: Git Connection Hangs During Commits or Shows No File Changes

I'm using RH 2020.0.156. I just set up my Git connection and successfully added my project. However, since then, I've made changes, tried to commit, and run into two errors:

• The first time I tried to commit, the commit just spun and spun, but never finished (or comitted). Thinking this was some sort of bug, I closed and reopened RH.
• The second time I tried to commit, the Commit window showed that no files were available to commit. 

I closed and reopened several more times, made a few superficial changes, and RH never showed there were changes that needed to be committed.
