Error encountered: Adobe RoboHelp 9 has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Running:
Word 2002 SP3
Windows XP Professional ver 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.101209-1647 : SP 3)
I downloaded Adobe Technical Communication Suite 3 demo and only have 5 days left of the demo....so I need help FAST!
I am using the Essentials of Adobe RoboHelp 9 HTML "Skills and Drills" Learning by iconlogic (which I believe was written just for me ;O) it's awesome!)
and have followed the steps for Printed Documents several times to no avail.

Try with one of the supplied sample projects.
Click Open on the RoboHelp Starter page and then click Samples in the ribbon on the left.

Thanks for responding, but alas, the same error occurred. We are looking to buy this product, but only if it works.
Any other solutions?

Do you have the projects on your local drive?
Are you generating the printed document to your local drive?
Was TCS installed with local admin rights?
The problem you are seeing is not normal. Sometimes happens with a particular project but not the samples.

Peter,
Yes, and Yes again. I currently have full admin rights to my machine, but was assured by Adobe that once the product was loaded on a machine, that full admin rights were not needed.

I was only interested in admin rights during installation. They are not required after that.
Do you also have the PDF option ticked? If yes, try without that and just generate a Word document.

Only doc is ticked. Just tried it again using another sample. Still not working.

The fact that this is happening with all projects including the samples makes me think this has to be a bad installation.
You mention Word 2002 but I assume you mean Word 2003. That is compatible and I assume it is working OK otherwise. The only other thing to check that I can think of right now is to check that in Word your Macro settings (in Security) are set to low. I don't think that is it as that should generate an error message, not a crash.
If that doesn't make any difference, then I think it is time to uninstall and reinstall.
You haven't mentioned source control so I assume that is not in use.

Peter,
FYI,
I have been working with Adobe Technical Support Consultants about the issue of RoboHelp 9 force closing whilst trying to compile using Printed Documentation for the output. After numerous back and forth's on the telephone, they finally concluded that RH 9 is not compatible with Word 2002 - SP3. They told me that I needed Word 2007 for RH 9 to work.

First I need to correct myself as I found Word XP was also known as Word 2002. Now to correct Support. RoboHelp 9 supports Word 2003 through 2010.

Thanks Peter. Got the same answer from Adobe Tech Support.....after several weeks of investigations.

Hi - sorry are you saying RH9 is or isn't compatible with Word 2003 (SP3) according to Tech Support?
I have a (possibly similar) problem -- generating a Word file seems to hang indefinitely, at around 98% on the progress bar. Doesn't respond to the Cancel button either.

What is not clear about "RoboHelp 9 supports Word 2003 through 2010"?
This thread is about RoboHelp closing rather than hanging so having established it is not because you are using an incompatible version, your best course of action is to start a new thread.
