Hello all.
My organizatoin recently purchased RH Server 9 database and a gentleman from our IT Department is installing it. He advised me that the system's configuration is requiring some sort of database. I was wondering if this requires we use Robosource Control which we don't.
Also, we're installing RH Server on a separate machine and I will be accessing it remotely. I'm curious if this would be a problem because RoboHelp HTML is installed on my machine but not the one we have the Server software installed on.
As always any assistance you fine folks can give me would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi, Mike
It's important to install on a careful step by step basis and I'm glad you are looking into the database requirements.
The first place to start is this online help link which explains the System Requirements - it may sound perfunctory, but it is important.

Note especially the section on installing the database.
Very Important: Also I'd highly recommend this Knowledge Base article which shows a "matrix" of what database versions work best in combination with various OSes.

Also to specifically answer your question: No, you do NOT need to use RoboSource Control. The two are often confused because both are database applications requiring "servers". So, to be clear, RoboSource Control is mutually exclusive of RoboHelp Server. Both are often used, but they are in no way dependent on one another. Many times people will use RoboHelp Server and not have any source control at all. I'm glad you asked this because it is often misunderstood. ![]()
You may also want to download the Adobe RoboHelp Server 9 Reviewer's Guide which also contains a couple of Captivate videos I did for Adobe which give a tour of the server.
