RoboServer 9 Configuration

We have RoboServer 9, how do we configure to our server?

"Configure" is a big word covering a lot of territory. There is something called the Configuration Manager, but I'm not sure that's what you are asking. Have you already installed the RoboHelp Server 9 on the Apache Tomcat Server and is the Tomcat server working properly? That's the first step. Are you just looking for best practices or are you having particular issues?

Yes, agreed, it is a big word, essentially we have RoboHelp Server 9 and we just need to know where to start and so that we don't go in and break anything...

As John said, you need to have Apache Tomcat Server running. Once you have that installed you have the choice of using Tomcat or IIS to communicate with it. Personally I'd go with Tomcat because it is easy to setup. Once you have that, install RHS and you are pretty much good to go. The only thing I'd change as far as configuring the RHS is to change the setting to ensure that reindexing is done on the server. This is configured in the Configuration Manager.

Following up on Colum good points, here are a couple more items to add to a checklist for installation startup.

It is very critical that you start with a proper installation. BE SURE to read the online help topics below regarding System Requirements and OS/Database Compatibility:

Once both Tomcat Server and RoboHelp Server and the Database (either the default Access Database, or the recommended more robust Oracle or MS SQL Server DB) is configured and setup, the next step is for the author to publish a sample project to the new server using the the WebHelp Pro Single Source Layout in RoboHelp's authoring tool. Here are some screenshots that may be helpful when publishing:

Next, you or your administrator needs to verify the Author's user account, Group and Area are correctly setup.

This is done using the Web Administrator's Application which is browser-based and the URL to get to it will follow this syntax:

http://localhost:8080/robohelp/admin

This Web Administrator application screenshot (below) shows that a Group was created (in this case, called Authors) and the individual users who were assigned to it.

Then, Areas (a special type of sub-section of content) are created so that the Area can be designated when the author publishes the project. Certain rights can be assigned at this point for who can have access.

For example you could have a public "Live" area and an authenticated Development area for QA testing or a HumanResources Area for members of that department, etc.

Once the project is published, here is the syntax of a URL which end-users go to:

<IP or Domain> <Context (in this case robohelp is the default)> /server? <prj is the name of the RoboHelp Project (same as the .xpj)> <followed by the Area name shown here as "general".>

These are not all, but certainly these cover the main points that are often missed.

Hey Bill

Unfortunately I'm not seeing the PNGs of the errors. Did you use the little "Camera" icon on the toolbar? That's the best way to include a snapshot.
