Question

Unable to Generate Primary Layout

As I construct my Topics, Table of Contents and my actual Help File content, at a certain point Robohelp stops being able to Generate Primary Layout. Sometimes this is accompanied by losing all the links between the TOC and the Topics.

The error message when trying to "View Result" is:

"Failed to find the result file C:\Documents and Settings\mitchell\My Documents\Mitch's Test 1\!SSL!\WebHelp\mitch_s_test_1.htm"

If I open the !SSL!\WebHelp folder there is absolutely nothing in there. I basically have to start over.

What is going on?

Thanks.

Too long a path can cause problems. If shortening the path has worked for this project...

Welcome to the forum.

Try generating to a folder with a shorter path, for example

c:\webhelp

I tried shortening the menu path, but it still could not find the result file.

I created another test Project with just a handful of topics and TOC entries. After I Generated the Primary Layout for this smaller Project, I looked in:

My Documents \ HelpFile \ !SSL! \ WebHelp

There are probably seventy files in there, along with Topic folders. Why would this folder be empty in the larger Project? What causes the files and folders to all be deleted from the WebHelp folder?

And, is that the source of the problem?
