UPDATED: RoboHelp7 > RoboHelp Server7 Publishing Error

New Here ,
Aug 15, 2008 Aug 15, 2008
I am getting a very strange intermittent error after creating a layout and publishing direct from RoboHelp to the RoboHelp Server:

Publishing has been cancelled.
Connection Failed. Please check the connection and post again.
Native Error:Cannot accept uploading file. Further processing has stopped.

Anybody seen this before? Again, this worked fine only 1/2 the time. Restarting services makes no difference. Then magically one day it will work and nobody has changed anything in our produciton environrment. Weird.

I have received this message with x5, not frequently but enough to know that restarting services does not help; having my engineers reboot the server box that my engine sits on does the trick for me.

Hi all

What I'm about to suggest probably falls more into the VooDoo category than anything else, but what the heck. Can't hurt to double check, eh?

I seem to vaguely recall that if you have had Windows Explorer open at some point and have been using it to look at your output folder, you may have a file named "Thumbs.db" present. I think if this file is present it may cause odd issues. As I recall, it's a system file generated by Windows. You may safely delete it if you see it, as it's a file Windows creates if you ever look at the folder in "Thumbnails View" from Windows Explorer. Additionally, you may need to configure Windows Explorer so that it will show these files to you.

So to be on the safe side, here is how you configure Windows Explorer to show these files to you.

From inside Windows Explorer, click Tools > Folder Options...
Click the View tab
Ensure the option is enabled for "Show hidden files and folders"
While we are here, we may as well change a couple of other settings. So ensure the options "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" are not enabled. (If they are enabled, a check mark appears in the check boxes for these settings).

As I said earlier, it may be VooDoo, but you never know... Rick

OK ill give that a look-see, however I delete the contents of my Web Content folder (the layout output folder) and close it so not sure if that will help me. All suggestions are welcomed.

FYI: Rebooting our VMware server would not be easy to do as we have a myriad of virtual servers on one physical server, with developers using one or more of these at any given time.

I wanted to let you all know that rebooting the VMware servers gives me the ability to publish again. We are not rebooting the actual hardware, but the individual hosted "guest" operating systems.

Thanks for everyone's help!

rebooting the server is all fine and danday, but when it happens every week we run into trouble. Our application is worldwide and having to reboot every time in need to publish means that some client somewhere cannot see the help file when they need to. It's not an acceptable answer, and I'd really like Adobe to pitch in an answer to this problem.

Yes, continually rebooting not a solution for us. We reverted back to publishing to our RoboEngine server. Works great now. Wasted so much time trying to figure out what issue was with RoboHelp 7 Server. Maybe Adobe could hook you up with the old RoboEngine server software until they resolve all the issues . I think they know how to fix, but instead of including in updates, they'll make you wait and pay for it with Server 8...

Same with us. Rebooting to publish is silly. Maybe version 8 will be the panacea?

Version 8 is not an option for us, unfortunately. At least it won't be not until our total server version 7 experience is long forgotten.

Oddly enough, we just received an invitation to "beta" version 8. That has gone over big, I can tell you. The invitation begins:

"We would very much like hear from our esteem customers ..." (sic)
