WebHelp - what files are included in the finished product?

Hello,

I'm testing a WebHelp version of one of our .CHM help files, and I would like to know what files are used in the finished help system.

Do I basically need every file outputted into the Project/!SSL!/WebHelp folder? My understanding is that WebHelp is effectively the same as an HTMLhelp project, just without the compression to a single .chm file.

I'm asking as I'm not used to having this many files for a finished system. Compared to the single .chm file we currently create, one of our smaller projects alone created 4 sub folders and just over 110 files total (e.g. htm, css, js, jpg, etc.).

Just wanting to make sure I correctly the WebHelp format properly. Thanks!

Hi there

All the output files are needed only if you want the WebHelp to work for the end user. So if you don't care whether it works or not...

Seriously, you do need to ensure all the files are included. Some may seem to be superflous, but all are needed in order to compensate for browser and browser configuration differences.

And that's why I always refer to WebHelp output as "the swarm" of files.

Thanks for the info.

To ask another somewhat dumb question , how do we store a multi-project webhelp system?

What I mean is: Currently, we produce a .chm-based help system with 20 .chm files. These are all stored in a single folder, with a "parent" .chm file and all the children.

How would this be done in WebHelp? Would the Help folder contain 20 subfolders (Module1, Module2, Module3, etc.), or would all the help files be directly saved into the Help folder, without being divided by project?

(I hope my question makes sense!)
