With new PC RoboHelp for Word will not open

When I try to open RoboHelp for Word, this error message appears:
"The version of Microsoft Word you have installed is not supported. Please install an earlier version of Word before running RoboHelp for Word."

With this new PC installation, I'm still using Word 2003, which is the same version that I used previously. However, the PC's operating system is now XP, whereas it was previously Windows 2000.

Any ideas?

Thank you!
Janice

Peter and Brian, THANKS so much! RoboHelp for Word is working now.

Peter, your advice to install RoboHelp AFTER installing Word was key in solving this problem.

For a quick summary of the result -- our Help Desk uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook, Word, and RoboHelp. Then they reinstalled Word and Outlook; needed to change an "Advanced" setting in outlook; to get Word to stop giving me the error messages, they needed to redo my user profile. Then after I was confident that Word and Outlook were working correctly, this afternoon I installed RoboHelp X5 via my CD, and then downloaded and installed these two patches from Adobe.com:
- rho_x501.exe (for the RH Office Word 2003 Support Update)
- rho13_x502.exe (for the Microsoft XP Service Pack 2 Support Update X5.0.2).

I'm so thankful that RoboHTML and RoboHelp for Word seem to be working well! Thanks again!

Janice

P.S. I do have one more question about a patch that I've not yet loaded, but I'll post that under a separate subject.

RH has to be installed after Word. If it was not done in that order, uninstall and reinstall plus the patches.

Peter and Brian, thank you for your advice. I found the RoboHelp service releases, and did, in fact, download and install three--
- the Word 2003 support update
- the Printed Doc fix
- the Microsoft XP Service Pack 2 support update X5.0.2

The good news is that I'm no longer receiving that first error message; however, I'm receiving other error messages related to Word, i.e.,
-> MS Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close...
-> Word failed to start correctly the last time... Do you want to start in safe mode
-> RoboHelp Explorer is unable to start MS Word.

I've put in a request to our Help Desk, as I think these Word issues relate to the recent installation of MS Office on this new PC, as I'm also receiving an error message when opening Word alone or Outlook.

Hi Janice - Go with Peter on the patch (he knows best, I'm sure). X5.0.2 was a download - I have it as RHO13_X502.exe - have a look.

You would definitely need the patch. Search on Updates on Adobe's site. It is still there.

Did they upgrade the OS or wipe the disk and install clean? If they upgraded, I think you will need to reinstall RH and apply the patch that made it compatible with Word 2003.

Peter,

Actually, it's an entirely new PC, including new hard drive and new OS.

Would I still need to apply the "patch that made RoboHelp compatible with Word 2003"? If so, where would I find this patch?

Also, as you may have noticed from my previous reply to Brian, I'm wondering how to load RoboHelp X5.0.2 since this RoboHelp CD at this desk seems to load only RoboHelp X5.

Thanks again.

I'm running RHX5.0.2 with Word 2003 on XP with no problems, even on migration some time ago from Windows 2000.

Which RH are you running? Has it been OK on this setup before or is this a new scenario?

Brian,
Thank you for your insights. The version of RoboHelp on my new PC is X5, and I see in my notes where the version on my old PC was X5.0.2

...so perhaps I need to get X5.0.2 -- I'm wondering how to move to 0.2. -- I'll look for a CD here or I'll check the Adobe Web site.
