Question

Blackpool Tower - is it IP protected?

Hi all. I'm fairly new by Adobe Contributor standards, and I know there are many experts here who will likely know the answer to this. I have a few aerial photos and videos of Blackpool, UK, but I don't want to waste the moderators' time by submitting content that might get rejected.

As you may know, it's nearly impossible to capture Blackpool without including the Tower or the piers in the footage. Are these considered IP-protected landmarks? I do have some shots where the Tower is the main focus, which I assume could be submitted as editorial—but what about wider townscape shots where the Tower is visible in the background?

These were mostly captured at sunset, so there are no illuminations on. Is there anything else I should be mindful of when it comes to Blackpool footage?

Much appreciated—thank you all!

Outside shots of the tower should not be protected by IP, except if there are special regulations for that. Inside pictures are well protected and will need an authorization for commercial use. Also, if there are specific lightning events, they may be protected by IP.

Skyline pictures are anyhow not protected by IP, but some elements, like logos may well be.

I suggest that you start with one or two assets and work up to submitting more if those get accepted. Please note that an IP refusal may also be because other protected elements are in your picture, so please check your assets carefully for logos and similar before submitting. If you need to edit out logos, you really need to do so that the editing is not visible!

Submitting under editorial use only will limit the use of the pictures enormously. It's not recommended to do so in such a case.

Thank You, I do apprechiate all your replies.

I will atatch 3 examples below for your oppinion. The rest of photos are the same but just diffrent prespectives. Things such as stadiums, theme parks, concert halls, museums etc I only submit them for editorial use as from my understanding they stand no chance for comercial use. However with structures such as old landamrks like the Blackpool tower I am completly clueless.

Thank again.

Your first is a nce picture, but you will get an IP refusal because of the logos on the buildings, not because of the tower.

Your last shows also a name of a buisness, but I think it has also quality issues. First the composition is bad and second there is noise.

There is no name on the list of facilities that cannot be registered.

As for AdobeStock, since the building was built 120 years ago, a property release shouldn't be necessary.

However, in the case of commercial facilities, it is necessary to be aware that the images may be removed at the request of the rights holder.

I think You're correct that if the Tower or piers are the focal point or prominent in the shot, you should submit these images or videos as editorial.
close-up or detailed shots of these structures, especially at night with special lighting, a property release might be required. But also expert tell us correct thing
