Clarification On Public Domain Images

I was thinking about posting an AI Route 66 image (which is in the public domain) but I was reading in the submission guidelines that public domain images aren't accepted.

"We do not currently accept public domain content, which is content where the copyright has expired or where the content has been dedicated to the public domain.

Please clarify, because there are thousands of Route 66 images on Adobe.

American route signs (traffic signs in general) are not protected by copyright. So post own creations, where you control the copyright and you are good.

A picture I took of a traffic sign is not problematic for stock use.

If there are already thousands of Route 66 images in the database, why do you want to add more?

Well everything has been listed thousands of times. All we can do is put a unique spin on the image so it stands out.

Everything has NOT been listed thousands of times.  Think outside the mainstream box.

By way of examples: "Baba yaga," "Android dreaming of electric sheep," "Alice through the looking glass."

Inspiration can come from various sources -- literature, fairy tales, mythology, religion, folk lore, etc...  Or assemble a list of random words to create something unique.  Have fun with it. You CAN do this. 😁

If you create your own “Route 66” image, you can post it. You can't use a picture that has been created by someone else but is in the public domain.

What is to clarify? You posted the answer yourself.

When they say public domain are they only referring to pre existing photos that are in the public domain? Or are they referring to the public domain copyright in general? Can I list an AI generated Route 66 logo?

Read clause 3 of the Adobe Stock Contributor agreement. You cannot submit images unless you have full rights and ownership of those images..
