It's not the camera, it's the photographer.

For judging your new camera, I would suggest that you consider the overall package. It may be better to invest in good lenses than the highest resolution. If you invest in a high resolution camera, be sure that the lenses follow that high resolution. It does not help, if your nominal resolution is 45 Mp, but you effectively reach only less than that.

What you also need to consider is the noise level at higher ISO, the ease of handling etc.

This all seen together, a good 45Mp camera is better than a good 20Mp camera. What I find especially interesting is that you have more leverage for cropping your picture. Even that you would say that the highest resolution of the picture is best and the end user has more options to apply his preferred crop, I find that a correctly cropped picture (and  therefore lower resolution image) has more sales than an equivalent full resolution asset.

And there are people scanning stock for high resolution images, so in this view a 45Mp picture may be preferred over a better 20Mp picture.

The minimum file size is 2400X1600 pixels though you should submit the maximum files size your camera is capable of producing. Don't upsize your images unnaturally however.

I was thinking of buying another camera, and I wanted to know if it was worth it to reach 45 megapixels.

Yes sure, I know that, I just wanted to know your opinion about that question. just that, but that judgement it only mine, of course.

Getting your opinion doesn´t mean I will do anything you could say about it, just means it could be another point of view to consider to make a good judgment by my self.

I'm really sorry that a lot of the responses that you get here are pretty ambiguous and unhelpful.

Stock photography is a form of product photography. That being the case you really want to upload the best quality images possible. Many Adobe Stock customers will need high quality file sizes for things such as printed posters, banners and billboards. Imaages might also be used on Retina/High Res quality websites and in high quality magazine/book book prints.

I would say that if you can afford a high MP camera and you can ultilize it to shoot very professional looking stock images then go for it.

Adobe Stock has the following guidelines for file types and sizes:

  • Image format: JPEG
  • Color space: sRGB
  • Minimum image resolution: 4MP (megapixels)
  • Maximum image resolution: 100MP (megapixels)
  • Maximum file size: 45MB (megabytes)
