You can fix the underexposure and lack of contrast, but you can't fix the soft focus.

Look to two things when you check your pictures on your camera's screen: focus (at 100%) and the histogram. When getting the file into your editing program, check both again. Out of focus pictures can't be used (except if it is your baby child and the grandparents need a picture, they don't care about crisp sharp pictures...), bad exposure can be corrected. Underexposure is easier to correct than overexposure. That's why some cameras tend to underexpose pictures, BTW.
