Question

Render engine in Stager.

Hello folks, I feel I must comment  on the pretty poor render engine that Stager uses. It seems to filter out all the really fine textures when compared to the Iray from within Painter. No matter what I try the result from Stager is nothing like the quality I get when rendered directly from within Painter.  I first have to apply a texture to each part of the model in Painter then export the model into Stager and save as a SSG file [ need to do this for every model in the scene ] then assemble the scene in Stager then export as an OBJ into Painter so I can then render using Iray. . The downside to this is I cannot add extra lights ect. But... the render quality is so much better than  that from Stager. Not sure what render engine Stager uses but really wish it was Iray.

Hey @raymonda71404098 !

Stager actually uses a custom rendering engine - The Adobe Mercury Rendering Engine. We definitely want to improve so I'm wondering if you could share any examples of the result you see from Stager vs your iRay render?

In the Stager render settings you could also try disabling denoising.  Perhaps it's hyper-denoising your result for some reason.  The denoiser is trained on texture data to try to preserve those details, but if we're missing something it could happen!  You may want to adjust the samples to make up for no denoising a bit though.

Curious for any more information you could have to improve our engine.  The plan is to probably use it in more apps, Painter included.  We also have plans to open Stager at some point to 3rd party renderers like iRay but that's more a ways off.

Hello Jeanette, Many thanks for the reply. I will put together a scene
and post both rendered versions on the forum. I love Stager [ apart from
the Mercury engine] I enjoy using Stager in every other aspect.
Regards,
Raymond.
