Question

Substance Stager for Dn Users

Hi Jeanette,  I have a subscription to the full Adobe CC. Including Dimension. If it has morphed into Substance Stager how do I get access to that? It's not showing up as one of my "owned" Adobe resources and I would like to use it (especially given that the 3D features in Ps have become unstable and mostly unusable for 3D fine art photography composites - vs commercial apps like 3D Type). I also have Substance Designer, Substance Alchemist & Substance Painter (as a student license); so not sure how all of these products play together under the new product family. Or, how we continue or transition our student programs to the new, full product family. Thx! (BTW, I loved your tutorials at Adobe MAX last yr on Dn - hope you'll do more 3D tutorials for this year's).

Hey @Fotomaker01RA !  Sorry for the delay in response.

Adobe Substance 3D Stager is not part of the Substance student plans that were previously available at Allegorithmic. Stager is only available in these two Adobe plans:

  • Substance 3D Collection (Individuals, Team, or Enterprise)
  • Creative Cloud All Apps for Higher Education (available to select colleges and institutions).

Dimension has not been end-of-lifed as some people say. 😄 If it is, we will make an announcement.  So Dimension is still available as part of your Creative Cloud plan.  If you don't intend to renew Creative Cloud, then you will lose access to Dimension.

Thank you, Jeanette!

That's the info I needed.

I was planning to return to the Photo Plan only b/c the full CC plan is more than I can afford (beyond this past year of it). I can't bill anyone to cover my subscription costs. That means I'll lose Dn, in the next month or so - probably early Nov. b/c of that. And, won't have 3D features in Ps anymore either. Shucks. But at least I know what's what now.

Adobe has discontinued updating Adobe Dimension.

The program has been replaced with Adobe Substance 3D Stager and is now under the Substance subscription plan and not the Creative Cloud.

Thank you for your reply, Mark.

But it didn't answer the question I was asking of Adobe/Allegorithmic staff ....

As mentioned above, I was aware of the morphing of Dn into a "Substance" branded product family.

But that doesn't solve or address my particular situation as a student license holder of Substance products and how my current Dn feature set will be provided to me - as a student - since it's now considered part of the Substance product family. My full CC license expires imminently. And, with it, Dn .... so I need to know how to port my Dn functionality into the rest of my student-license Substance product set so I have the platform I need to work with textures, materials, models, etc. in a compositing platform (ie, Stager - formerly Dn). My skillset is photography (not graphic design, not modeling). So I need the intuitive compositing platform I've been relying on (as someone w/out an income & w/out clients to bill to recoup software costs as a biz expense...).

Hello, if i understand you need to open all your Dn project with a Substance app. Your Adobe CC licence will be end soon and you have a substance plan.

If you have a Substance you can use Stager like you used Dn. Stager open Dn files.
Stager is an update of Dn with more fonctions.
