Question

Timeline disappears completely while working on team project

While working on our team-project over the last few months, our main timeline disappeared randomly a lot of times. We couldn't find it anywhere, not in the project panel, only in the version history and auto-saves it appeared againg but then we couldn't open and recover them either.

A few days ago it happened again, but this time we didn't have a back-up. Weeks of progress may be lost.

(And yes, I know it was stupid to not make a backup for such a long time. We were to trusty with the program)

Here's a list of things we tried and that didn't work:

- Searching in the project-panel

- Reloading the workspace-layout

- We didn't delete them accidentally (it happened at least 30 times and often without pressing anything)

- Clicking on a clip and the opening the timeline where it's used (the timeline didn't show up)

We just hope that the data didn't got deleted so we can recover it somehow, but we don't know how.

Regardless, this is a serious bug, and not the only problem we had while editing with the Team Projects function.

We will not use it again and cut our next project with a different editing software. At least, until the team project function actually works and is fun to work with.

@Udo_Pawlik  I had a similar situation where a sequence disappeared. In my case, it kept showing up as a single offline clip. I tried pulling it in from various autosaves via the media browser but it kept coming in as an offline clip. And this was on a new Team project that I had yet to invite collaborators (I was waiting to see if the project remained stable - HA!). It's a nice idea but team projects is definitely not a professional tool.

Hi @Glomdrin28824223htuo,

Sorry for your troubles.
Does the timeline disappear on both machines at the same time?

After the Sequene disappeared can you drag just the missing sequence from the Media-Browser (Auto-Save) back into your project?
I'll also follow up with you via email.

Best,

Udo

Hi,

thank you for your answer and sorry for my late reply.

Regarding your first question: Yes and no. Because it depends on the changes we have made. When the timeline dissappears on one machine, and the other didn't update yet, the timeline is of course still there. When that happened, the person who still had the timeline made a back-up. That's how we solved the issue so far.

But of course, if you update from the version where the timeline is missing, then it won't be there on the other machine either.

And, as said in my first post, the timeline is nowhere to be found, we can't recover it from the version history and auto-saves, so we  sadly can't drag them back into our project.

I hope I understood you correctly there.

Thanks for the reply. I'm intersted to learn how the sequence does it's vanishing act.
On May 21st. I sent an email asking for more information that may help us troubleshoot the problem. Please DM me in case you haven't received the mail.

Best,
Udo
