We have Kea to perform those shenanigans. Supposedly the most intelligent birds on the planet, which apparently means most mischievous. You are warned not to leave packs undone and unattended on Southland Alpine tracks, and even if done up, the little buggers will try to get in. I've heard stories of walking boots being dragged away from outside a hut, and the handlebar grips eaten away on mountain bikes.
On the South Island West Coast, people have to adopt Kea-Proof tricks to stop them making a mess, but I doesn't really work
My first contact with a Kea was near the top of Avalanche Peak above Arthurs Pass. We were resting and a lone Kea landed on a rock right next to us. I panicked trying to get the camera out of my pack before it flew away, but the Kea almost offered to take the camera and take a picture of us! (Pre digital so goodness knows where that picture is now). That was a hard climb!

A lot of scree and a sharp drop-off. It looks like a very hard climb, Trevor! Nice view, though.
All the bird pictures reminded me of an article I just read in The New Yorker about Allbird shoes. It was started by someone from NZ and here is a quote from the article: "The name the company settled on derives from a supposed saying among New Zealand’s early settlers that the landscape was 'all birds.' "

We've got plenty of volcanic peaks like that here. Beautiful views from way up there.

70s music humor:
For those who don't get it, go to YouTube and search out:
Joy to the world--Three Dog Night 1970
A Horse with no name--America 1971
They were "earworm" classics.

Gene, that took me back, and onto one of those meanders through YouTube and Amazon's Alexa. It started with the thought that the lead vocals in Horse With No Name sounded like Neil Young, which took me to Crosby Stills Nash & Young, and eventually to Gentle Giant who I probably have not heard for forty years! I'd forgotten how good they were, and I'm still listening to them two hours later.
[EDIT] I heard Gentle Giant live at the Westcliffe Palace Theatre some time in the 70s. They were on with Lindisfarne and an enduring memory or the gig is that it was easily the loudest I've ever attended. I couldn't hear properly for hours afterwards.

We really have it good these days, Trevor. When all this music was current...it was either radio airplay or the local record stores and of course the local concerts. Now we can just thumb through YouTube to get all the music that wasn't in reach or just too expensive if you were on allowance.
Now if there were only an app to make us young again.

From time to time someone would bring in a radio claiming it was not working properly. After checking it carefully, it became clear the owner did not read the instructions.
We called it "Pilot error".

The power of a good graphic. Whatever you think of the Trump administration, you'd have to agree that the latest The New Yorker cover is a doozy. It's funny, clever, topical, and really quite nicely drawn. Oh to have a talent like that.
