In tables, try search for ^0$. Will work for cells, which contain 0 character only. Not useful for regular text list, though.

Which Enter key do you use? Enter on a main keyboard makes new paragraph. By hitting Enter key on the numeric keypad, you create a column break. If there's just one column in a frame, your text jumps to the next threaded frame. If there isn't such, your text is overset. I mean, use the "green" one:

Win7, ID 8.1 (CS6). Wingdings 2 and Wingdings 3 - both version 1.55. Screenshots would be identical to those of Ellis home, no need to post. Everything's fine before and after packaging, fonts copied and recognized properly. Likely it's not a common bug, something's wrong on your side.

FWIW: Some people complain they still have issues even with app frame ON. Some not. Known places bug affects are: The Paragraph Panel, the Control Panel and the Color Panel. Also one can encounter issues working with tabs in text. Disabling Type Contextual Controls usually helps anyway. That said, it's possibly OR situation, but to be on a safe side you better treat it as AND.

A LOT of threads about this bug here already. 1. Turn on "Application Frame" under menu "Window". and / or 2. Navigate to Preferences -> Advanced Type -> Show Adornment on Text Selection/Text Frame for more Type controls >> uncheck these.

It may depend on what do you mean by "lines connect words". In addition to Bob's suggestion: if anchoring seems too complicated to You by chance, maybe simple grouping is just enough? Sure, if your text frame is not threaded. Or lines as inline graphic, or tabs with leader instead of lines? It all depends on actual layout. Any screenshot would be very helpful.

Do you really understand what you mean... Yes, I do. Agreed, one may find such approach rather strange, but it works on OP samples. I listed cases it covers - don't you find it fair enough? That said, I have learned not answer the questions I wasn't asked. Your life experience may be different. So: (in US) … won't be taken by your code! So what? It's not here in the samples OP provided. I guess it's possible to invent scenarios which even Your smart code won't cover - then you'll need even more gorgeous one, and that's no surprise. Pixxxel's addition is useful to restrict the GREP greediness. Seems like it's not the case in OP's text, so I omitted it. Would there be any harm of adding it? No! Your codes cover much wider area, still aren't something worth to save for future reference. It's still kind of "use it once and throw away". IMHO, nobody's really right or wrong here, it's just a matter of POV, so I find this further discussion rather pointless. Peace and Merry Christmas to everyone

One possible scenario: Draw a circle 8 mm in diameter. Apply Stroke 10 pt. Try to resize to 6 mm (enter value in W or H field). You'll get this pretty straightforward alert: I guess, you encountered something like this. Something, that can't shrink to values you ask. Not sure if it must be stroke, exactly.

Michael, 2 things I love here most: Illy is not involved by any means here. Text is ID native and LIVE. No outlines! There is: 1. placed bitmap as a background (to demonstrate transparency) 2. group of red rectangle and blue circle, following Your technique. What I did additionally: converted the circle to Text frame, entered text, applied [Paper] to it, and in Effects panel set 0% Opacity to that text. Just like to the outline of the circle (which is Text Frame now). There is even simpler version showing that same effect. No grouping, just one text frame:

Some people report, this helps in similar situations with ID2017 on Mac: Navigate to Preference->Advance Type -> Type Contextual Controls and disable the preference “Show for Character Alternates, Fractions, Ordinals and Ligatures”. For now, it's a good idea to disable "Show Adornment on Text Selection/Text Frame for more Type controls", too.
