Hi Rick, This is exactly what we are looking for. Would you be able to share the steps of how you inserted the video thumbnail in the help page and how did you edit the properties the URL, attributes, autoplay, etc? Can we resize the video thumbnail or is there a default size? We have few videos on vimeo and few on brainshark as well.

If we have videos hosted on youtube or brainshark or some other video hosting site and we have a URL to play the video directly, can we in RH 2017 Responsive HTML5 insert a reference to that video as a thumbnail? After you insert a reference to the video, it should shown a small thumbnail with the play button overlayed on it. When you click Play, it should start playing the video. We can maximize if required. In short, we want to avoid video baggage files in the source but we want to reference an existing hosted video. Any suggestions/pointers if this is possible? .......... -Tejas

Is there any good example/article/blog on how to use areas/groups/users to its best in RH Server 10? I am able to publish the entire help content to the general area with access to everyone. I can also view the project. I want to accomplish this: There are few topics/chapters I want to hide from general users but make available to only few users. Any good article/blog on user authentication through both database and LDAP to refer to for Development team. My product uses its own authentication which is DB-based. Can I extend that view content. How do I relate it to areas/users/groups. If user1 logs in the product how can I ensure that he sees only content published to Area1. If user2 logs in the product how can I ensure that he sees only content published to area2?

Yes. Just tried in IE as well as Chrome.The left navigation just show this: The content shows up in the right pane. I can click on the related page links/hyperlinks and browse pages.

I installed and configured Roboserver on a machine and everything went smooth. I could log in and also publish the help to the server successfully. later, when I go to roboserver admin portal and under projects when i say View projects, the help does launch however, the ToC does not show up. Even the search does not work. I can click topic hyperlinks and browser. Any idea what is missing?

Not confusing the users. We had the traditional Web Help integrated into the product build which had a specific way to invoke the context-sensitive help pages. When we generate a Responsive HTML5 output of the same Web Help project, this is the only new addition. The t= in the URL. So the logic/code to invoke the context-sensitive pages of Responsive HTML5 output will have to be tweaked a bit. We know what the change is and where to make it in out code. Hi, The Responsive HTML5 output adds few extra characters in the output. t= Is this something that can be controlled/changed? We have yet another question from the PM team. They are happy with the Responsive HTML5 layout and the overall output compared to Web Help. Because the product is now going to be multi-tenant, the only concern is that different tenants (users) will be accessing different areas of the product based on the license that they have purchased. Based on that backdrop, is there a mechanism or some kind of admin portal/console possible that allows such a control. I know a Web Help output or a Responsive HTML 5 output does not provide anything like that directly. Any pointers/suggestions?

We are evaluating RH 2017 Responsive HTML 5 layout over traditional Web Help. One question the PM team has is that is there a way to show or configure alerts, news, updates that user would see when the user launches the help from the product? The help will be hosted on a help server. For example, some critical fixes have been made in the product that need to be highlighted/shown upfront on the launch of the help for about a month or until the next help build is pushed. Is that doable?

Finally, there is some clarity on the approach that the product team is going to be taking. The product will be multi-tenant. So one instance of the product will cater to multiple users. Based on the username the user will see what he has purchased. For example, User A has a full license he will see all 5 tabs on the product UI on sign-in. User B has a limited license he will see 3 tabs on the product UI on sign-in. The product build is the same/common in this case. It will call a single instance of the Online Help as usual by clicking (?) in the top-right. In the help output, how can we ensure that User B sees content for only the 3 tabs he supposed to and not the other 2 tabs. There will be Development team/UI team code changes to call the help URL. Any suggestion on how only relevant pages can be called/conditioned/hidden.

If we have a scenario where the Responsive help output is hosted on a Web server and accessed like this via a URL: https://<helpserverIP/domain>/product/online_help/index.htm when we have new content added to the help files, can we compile the Responsive output on a local laptop and then just replace the online_help folder on the helpserver? Is there any chance that the output will break when we access https://<helpserverIP/domain>/product/online_help/index.htm? And for what reason? Any specific files to be careful of? or does the output need to be compiled by installing RH 2017 on the helpserver by opening the source code from SVN?

Hello, We have a scenario where we have 2 versions of a ProductX that are being used by 2 different customers. ProductX v1.0 - Customer A with a license for v1.0 only. ProductX v1.5 - Customer B with a license for v1.5 only. Condition: Customer A should not be able to view the content of ProductX v1.5 and Customer B should not be able to view the content of ProductX v1.0. The help output is hosted on a help server and accessible via web URL for example http://help.domain.com/productX/help/index.htm. This help URL is integrated into ProductX. Can we have a single help output, as mentioned above, serving ProductX but also satisfying the condition mentioned? Is it achievable by using tags or any other way?

Hi, We have a table that overflows to multiple pages when we generate a printed documentation (Doc/PDF). The customer wants the table header to be repeated at the top, similar to the setting that we have in MS Word. Right now the header does not repeat. The workaround is to generate a doc output and then manually apply the repeat table header setting in MS word and then save it as a PDF. Is it possible to handle it in RH 2017?

We are using RH 2017 and we generate a Web Help output that subsequently gets integrated with the product build. We want to be able to identify each Web Help output that is integrated with the product, with a unique build number for traceability and bug tracking. This is a strange request/scenario but more of a question from the PM community. If we have a scenario where RoboHelp output is hosted on a cloud server and integrated with the product UI. Because it is accessible over internet/network anyone can access it even if the user does not sign in to the product. What if we want users to view the help only after they launch it from the product UI after signing in the product? And not without entering the product. Is that possible?

Hello, Can we handle such a scenario by using any properties in RH? We have a responsive help output: http://help.ipaddress.com/productname/page.htm We have 2 clients Client A and Client B. Client A should view Topic 1 through Topic 20. Client B should view Topic 1 through Topic 20, except, Topic 7 and Topic 13. Challenge: We have a static help URL that is common to all viewers/users. Is it possible to filter content based on the client and topic? Any suggestions/pointers would be helpful.

Hi, When we generate a word document/output of a help system in RH 2017, there are instances where the formatting is disrupted for example dynamic text, bullets etc. Is there a way/trick where we can ensure that the output is exactly the way we see it in the browser help? Exception dynamic text, which will be shown as flat in the word output.

Hello, With Chrome version 63, the Web Help books fail to expand. It worked well with Chrome version 62. Any suggestion/browser setting to how to handle this? Using Search or Index is the only option because ToC has stopped working.

I have a question. Currently we have an application/software hosted on a server. Users access it via a browser. The help is integrated with the application/software as part of the build. This has been very crazy because the product build is dependent on the documentation output and vice versa. With resource crunch, emergencies, and typical late-breaking updates this becomes a nightmare to handle. We want to continue to use RH source as we do but we want to be able to push/publish the output to a cloud-based server. So that help can be accessed via Internet. The help integration with product build can be then discontinued except for the mapids for the context-sensitive pages. Help updates can be pushed silently without disturbing product builds. Context-sensitive help calls will invoke the cloud/Internet-based help. Any pointers/suggestions on any pocket-friendly solutions would help.

Scenario: We have a team member updating a FM document for product A Release 1. We have another team member updating the a copy of the same document for product B Release 2. The FM document is a common configurations document to both product A and B. Product A releases before product B. The first version of the FM document will go for product A Release 1. To ready the document for product B Release 2, I want to merge content from my copy into this. Question: A simple copy and paste would address this. Hello Experts, I have a question. Captivate we know is the last word in creating elearning and interactive videos. Similar to a tool called StepShot, is there a way that Captivate can capture clicks/snapshots and we could add instructions to it. Then save it as a training manual/guide. Hello, I use RoboHelp 2017 with update 2 installed. I generate and integrate Web Help with the application I recently noticed that on Google Chrome browser (latest version) the context sensitive help works seamlessly. On IE, the context sensitive help launches correctly but the search does not work. The version of IE that I use is: 11.0.9600.18537 By search does not work, I mean that the under the search tab when I type a rod and try to click the Go button, the button shows unclickable. Nothing happens on a click. I recently installed update 2. Is it because of this? Has anyone come across such an issue?

Hi Amit, My RH version is 2017 and build 13.0.0.257. Not sure if this is the latest. However, would that make a difference? Just out of curiosity. The generated output works perfectly fine in the local folder ......... -Tejas
