I'm not a core programmer but the rewrite wouldn't be required, if the new chip is still x86, right? Assuming that's the architecture Intel's CPUs are still using... I've no idea on variations or flexibility of architectures, so don't know if Apple (or whomever) could create a chip that retains architecture compatibility but go beyond what Intel has been able to do (or do wrongly). They've been through the rewrite process before, and it worked, so they have a roadmap. Captivate has always been quirky with animated gifs. Creating them via Photoshop seems to be a pretty reliable process for me - I just made a few recently for a CP 2017 project that worked just fine. How are you inserting these videos into Capivate? On the timeline or as event video? If on the timeline, be sure to pause the slide until the video is done playing (i.e. ask user to click next). Otherwise, it can take a while for video to load if it's not from a streaming server, so if you have the video on the timeline, the timeline starts on slide enter...but the video can't load quickly enough...so it's not done playing by the time the timeline is complete. As a quick test, if any of that seems related, extend your timeline to double the length and see if that solves the problem. It's not a solution (as your slide is now way too 'long', right?) but it may help show the issue. ... View more

You have a direct URL to a PDF. If you put that exact URL in a web browser alone, does the PDF show up? If so, the URL is good. Then the issue may be - web browsers now (generally) have built-in PDF rendering. The issue may be that the Captivate widget does not. The PDF is not 'HTML' so the widget doesn't know how to load it. So you may be able to try actually embedding the PDF in an HTML document. Try this sort of search to find solutions on how to do that. If successful, then give the widget a URL to the HTML document, not the PDF. And see if that works... ... View more

It's pretty rare/difficult for a program that's been running properly for a while to suddenly have issues like you note. Are you sure the program was not updated some point recently? Either way, test your local copy of the program in different browsers/devices and ensure it works as expected...then upload and replace the current LMS version. Test there and see if the issue happens again. Don't rely on 'Preview' to evaluate the true results of your project. Preview is great for a quick check...but if something isn't working the way you suspect, publish the piece and get it up on a webserver for a true test. There are too many browser security pieces that can make local previewing unreliable. If you're setting the proper Vimeo URL in the web object (pretty sure it should be the 'embed code'), I suspect you'll see it show properly when you run the piece from a website or LMS. ... Back in the day I got quite a few jobs by answering questions on Macromedia forums, then some folks would email me and ask if they could just hire me to help them. It was maybe 1 of 50 people, but it was something. So not only real-world networking but raise your profile (your 'brand') with helpful contributions. To your later question, you can design your own website pretty easily with sites like WordPress or Wix if you don't need fancy and don't mind site branding. If you want a truly custom site, I'm sure there are many here who could help. You don't need to hire a high-end firm. But really, you should give it a go yourself - it just adds to your skillset. Upwork seems to be a popular freelance site these days, as well as Fiverr, but you're competing with a huge crowd and a lot of price pressure. Such sites are 'easy' but they're also probably pretty low on conversions... Agreed with others - hit the bricks; talk to small businesses in you area, non-profits especially. I love the *idea* of driverless cars. The improved traffic flow alone could be a huge boon as opposed to tpeople who are on their phones or otherwise distracted. Road rage could be lowered significantly...unless maybe someone sets their car to 'overly aggressive driving' But yes, I am absolutely wary at this point. I've no desire to own one until those first-adopters get all the bugs worked out. One downside will be, of course 'drivers' will be even more distracted. Unfortunately, that is the nature of MP4 and HTML5. With HTML5 and browsers now natively support MP4, that 'Save As' feature is just built-in to the browser for video...just as it is for images. Two possible options: 1) most true streaming services disallow the Save As feature by the nature of true video streaming. So not only does uploading your video to a streaming service, then integrating it into CP result in a better viewer experience, but the Save As almost surely won't be an option. YouTube/Vimeo are good, free options to do that. 2) you could try to layer an invisible hotspot overtop the video and have it respond to a right-click. So when users right-click the video, maybe the hotspot will intercept the click and...do whatever you tell it to. I've not tried that though. ... View more

When you publish a CP piece to both formats, it creates an HTML file for each format and another one called 'multiscreen.html' (or, at least it did back with v.8  - I've stopped publishing to both so I can't actually verify that with CP 10/2017). If you create a SCORM file with both versions, the imsmanifest points to that multiscreen file as the launch file... That multiscreen file checks...something (I think it's just the size of the screen) and either shows the Flash version (big screen) or the HTML version (small screen).  So...if you continue to publish to both and Flash support just totally dies (it could be argued its dead already), the multiscreen file doesn't know that, and will continue to launch the Flash version when the condition is met (if not screen size, then some other desktop vs mobile flag).  In short, at that point, your Flash/desktop piece will simply be non-functional at all...UNLESS you launch the index.html file, which loads the HTML version. If you publish to SCORM, then you'll have to change all the imsmanifest files to point to 'index.html' instead of 'multiscreen.html'. Overall, there's almost no reason to not just publish to HTML now...unless perhaps your users are stuck on old browsers. All current browsers support HTML5 now that those versions should work fine. The only, slight, advantage to Flash publishing are the few CP features (i.e. some effects) that aren't yet supported in the HTML version. ... View more

A common issue, though likely not an issue here if your exact same .zip file works on SCORM Cloud, is folks .zipping up the *folder* instead of the *files*. The imsmanifest.xml MUST be at the root of the .zip file. The imsmanifest file tells the LMS what file to launch, and thus typically points to an 'index.html' file, which is also at the root. If you're publishing to .zip from Captivate, then the folder should be structured that way for you (a series of files, including imsmanifest.xml, at the root, and several sub-folders). If you are .zipping yourself, be sure you are not .zipping the published folder only. When you open the .zip, if you just see one folder, that is incorrect. Otherwise your LMS provider should provide you with more detail. How is the .zip not structured properly? (I suspect they're not telling you...because they probably don't even know. It may be unfair for me to say, but I bet 'BizLibrary' licenses someone else's LMS engine, packaged up some existing content, and made a business model without really understanding the nuances of SCORM. If you need to re-record, try recording with a different program (i.e. Audacity), save as .wav, then import that audio file. I've not had many audio issues at all (knock wood) but I also almost never record audio within Captivate. Back in the day... Macs USED to be better and worth the higher cost. I was a big MacFanatic. Multiple monitors? Check Included SCSI? Check More friendly and customizable OS? Check Then Windows 95 came out, which was a huge improvement, then Win98...and multiple monitors, cheap scsi add-ons, easier customizations...and I could easily add multiple drives and RAM... I turned to the darkside after Win98 and dual-monitor support and haven't looked back. I do still have an old Intel Mac Mini here in the office though, serving up Plex...
