One more thing about alpha: Alpha channel does not apply to all codecs in general. H264 as no alpha support, as far as I know. But you have always the option to create a single b/w video from your alpha and use this as alpha mask in your editing software. You are nearly on the right track, but using green-screen is not necessary, actual doesn't make sense at all You can: - export your video clean (without texts), import this into AE as video, add text and effects on separate layers and export this from AE -> use a high-res codec for this, like DNxHD185X to keep quality up until final export - create all your texts in one composition, timed to your video or not, export this as video in high-res codec with alpha-channel, import this into editing software and treat this as normal footage, meaning make your in's and out's and insert it into your timeline as you like - if your are using Premiere, you can link your AE composition right into your timeline, skipping all the export-parts and keep the ability to easily make changes - however, expect feelable lags in Premiere, because of AE has to render everything in realtime (and AE is not designed to do anything in realtime) ... Glad you found a working solution! If EPS and just 10 groups performs better, stick to this workflow. I don't know about any negative effects working with EPS. Sidenote: As Gutterfish pointed out, AE needs a very strong machine to perfom close to realtime. My recommendation is Intel i7 or i9, at least 4GHz per core, while this is more critical than core-count, 32GB of RAM as minimum, a dedicated SATA or M.2 SSD for cache. What should be the final outcome? Do you want to render a composition as image sequence? Do you want to save a frame from serveral comps with one click? If the latter, focus on setting a name or renaming the output file with your script. If nothing works, there is always the Advanced Renamer. Yes, multi-machine rendering is possible, even with native AE render engine. Render managers like RenderGarden or RenderBoss use multi process rendering (launching the render engine several times with differnt frame ranges). This means, you can have a set of computers as render farm, as well as one super-duper computer as renderstation, or a mix of both. Prepare yourself to need loads of RAM. Render Garden, however, has no built in way to launch render processes remotely, but you can edit the python scripts in your flavor. Okay, so it's not the earth zoom but the street map animations. You can create the background in AE, this makes the most sense, if you graphic don't have one. For the streets, you can take a high-res image if you have. If not, you can create it in Illustrator or AE, too. All they are animating is the highlight color. So you have one graphic with the streets and another one with the highlight. From here, it's pretty simple be done by animating masks. The key to this all are layers! Another way could be creating the streets right in AE as path layers. Then you can duplicate them, change the color to highlight and use "path trim" option to animate. Hi Marcel, I currently have a 3D comp with a grid, a text, grain, motion blur, camera with dof and my preview is 0,78fps on an i7 4790k @4,2GHz, 32GB RAM and GTX 1080. SSDs everywhere. So... YES! Preview is dead slow for everybody who starts really using AE. For my last character animation project, I worked with 1/4 resolution all the time and even this gave my unintentionally coffee breaks. Final render of 90sec animation took about 2,5h. Unfortunately RenderGarden is only for final output. As far as I know there is no way to speed up preview, except what AE offers by itself. I see two problems here: - unrealistic expectations for AE performance and - AMD Ryzen You won't find any benchmark against AE where Ryzen outperforms Intel and even Adobe recommens Intel CPUs. You find good tests here: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/After-Effects-CC-2019-CPU-Roundup-Intel-vs-AMD-vs-Mac-1297/ You should have better invest the money you spend on the GPU (it's overkill for for AE) for a Intel CPU, instead of of saving up at this most important part by going with AMD. Are you sure about this? I think you mix up After Effects with Illustrator. You can't zoom in to 9000% in AE. Max is 6400% only (and it's greyed on my system like forever). I don't mind those things much, but don't you think that my short and precise answer with image explanation would be the better correct answer to this question and be more helpful to others with the same issue?
