Well, that's interesting.  I don't use Animation Presets directly from the effect window much, so haven't noticed this before, but I don't have any factory Animation Presets in any of my effects either, in the CS6 installation I currently have access to. I have them in CS4, CS5, AND CS5.5, all verified as I have them all in my office - all Macs.  Presets visible in Fractal Noise, Ramp, Colorama etc.  But on my MBP with CS6 - nothing! They are still present in the Effects & Presets pallet in CS6, just not directly under Animation Presets in the Effects window. I'll check another CS6 installation when I get home. ... View more

What processing are you using to duplicate your composition?  If you select a comp in the project window and then duplicate, you will create a duplicate comp that is independent of the first.  HOWEVER, if there are nested compositions within your comp, then these will remain true to their original source compositions.  You may need to duplicate and replace those precomps within your duplicate comp.  Or, as shown above, there's a script to automate the process. ... I just did a test myself. Mac Book Pro, OS X Lion, After Effects CS 5.5 (10.5.0.253) Project Settings: Rendered using the H.264 for BluRay Output Module, then reimported file, laid one on top of other, masked the upper half out, so upper area of pic is native content, lower half is H.264 file.  You can see where the mask occurs by looking at the blue lines to left and right of the comp. There is no difference in any of the colours - they all match up perfectly. Overlaying one image over the other in Difference mode demonstrates how little the files differ: a little edging due to compression artifacts, but basically no difference in the file colours whatsover.  There are occasional variances of just one or two RGB points in any of the colour channels, but these can probably be explained by compression/banding issues. Are you confusing the terms comp and project? The only things that contain effects, scale, position etc in After Effects are layers within a comp.  If you drag elements from the project pane to a timeline, they won't have any of those other parameters intact.  Thats why you must cut and paste from one comp to another. When I refer to your OLD comp, I mean your original comp which contains the stuff you want to add to your new project.  That comp will be sitting inside the imported folder in your project pane. When I refer to your NEW comp, I mean the target location for all this stuff you have just imported.  Assuming you created it before you imported the temp project, that comp will be outside the imported folder in your project pane. ... You import another AE project just like any other graphic or footage item, with the Import command.  You can even drag an AE project onto the project pane from a Finder window. So, open your OLD AE project, delete all the stuff you don't need, then save as a temp project. Open your NEW AE project, choose File/Import and select the temp project. You should see a new folder in the Project pane which has the name of your temp project.  Inside, you'll find the comps and components of the temp project. I strongly encourage you to follow the suggestions of myself and Bogiesan, importing projects into AE rather than straight copy-paste.  After Effects is reliant on source elements like footage and solids, and these relationships can be broken if you just copy-paste between projects.  For the matter of a few extra seconds, doing a project import may save you a lot of trouble reconnecting and reimporting media.  ... Ah, my bad for not realising the problem in your last post.  The issue is that the Echo plugin can't draw outside the boundaries of your layer.  In my example, using a Text Layer, there are no boundaries (that's how Text Layers work), but in your example the echoes are lost anywhere outside the edges of the layer.
